Battle of New Orleans Commeration to kick off in Clarksville Tennessee with keelboat sendoff

The Early Arkansas Reenactors AsscociationClarksville, TN – On Nov. 13, 1814, a group of Tennessee Militia rendezvoused at Nashville to join Gen. Andrew Jackson in what has come to be called the Battle of New Orleans. They left Nashville on Nov. 18, 21, and 23 and marched to Clarksville, where they boarded flatboats for the long journey to New Orleans.

On Nov. 15, 2014, two hundred years later, Clarksvillians will again send Militia volunteers on a 40-fort keelboat replica down the Cumberland to re-enact that famous battle in New Orleans.

Block Party held in Lincoln Homes by LEAP and Clarksville Housing Authority

LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – On a crisp October Saturday LEAP organization in collaboration with the Clarksville Housing Authority hosted a Block Party in Lincoln Homes. Laughter could be heard as you approached the block party. It was coming from dozens and dozens of children enjoying free hot dogs, popcorn, and ice cream as well as playing games, jumping in the inflatables provided by A Jump’n Good Time, and live music from DJ Greedy.

LEAP Site Lead Dorlisha White spearheaded the event with the help of Martha Witherspoon of the Housing Authority.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Claudia Delgadillo had just worked a late shift at the restaurant, so when her cell phone rang around noon the next day, she almost didn’t answer it. The fact that the cell phone rang at all was a surprise to her because it was about to be disconnected.

The person on the other end of the phone was from Dr. Pepper, and as Delgadillo slowly woke up, she heard them say they were sending her to the Cotton Bowl for a chance to win a $100,000 college scholarship.

Make your way down to the Cumberland River on Friday, and you can see the largest steamboat in the world dock. There you can take look at the massive American Queen, a “genteel, floating antebellum mansion”, as their website describes it.

Clarksville Transit System - CTSClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Transit System’s “Spooky Special” is back. All CTS rides are free on the specially painted bus on Thursday and Friday, October 30th and 31st, 2014.

“We have so many loyal customers and we want to show them our appreciation,” said Arthur Bing of the Clarksville Transit System. “The ‘Spooky Tour’ has been very popular in the past and we are glad to bring it back this year.
