Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Informed by years spent as a school teacher, Dr. Prentice Chandler, dean of Austin Peay State University’s Martha Dickerson Eriksson College of Education, recognized a deficiency in the way social studies are taught in the classroom.

While disciplines like history, geography, political science, economics and psychology are addressed in-depth, Chandler and many other experts in the field noted a lack of attention to a major component of society — race, or more importantly, how race relates to our place in the world.

Illustrator Frank Morrison to Speak on “The Quickest Kid in Clarksville”

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center welcomes illustrator Frank Morrison on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 on its monthly Second Saturday Free Admission day. The museum is open to the public with free admission from 10:00am – 5:00pm.

Attendees will have three opportunities to hear Atlanta artist and illustrator Frank Morrison promote appreciation of illustration as an art form, reading as an enjoyable learning experience, how children and adults benefit from viewing art, as well as talking about his road to becoming a professional artist. Morrison will present in the Turner Auditorium at 10:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm.

They will talk before that evening’s featured film, “Finding Dory.”

Tickets On Sale Now For CAR YPN’s Handbags For Hope

Clarksville Association of REALTORSClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Association of Realtors (CAR) will host the fourth annual Handbags For Hope at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center on Saturday, August 12th, 2017.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Urban Ministry’s SafeHouse for Women and the CAR Young Professionals Network Mike Groves Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Handbags For Hope will feature over 200 handbags, wallets, and tote bags for women and men in a silent and live auction. The live auction will feature special “themed” bags with hundreds of dollars worth of special items inside.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Welcomes AAU Boys’ National Basketball Championships July 7th-12th

Visitor Spending Expected to Total $2.5 Million

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County is poised to welcome nearly 3,000 guests next week for two divisions of the Amateur Athletic Union’s Boy’s 10-and-Under National Basketball Championships.

Since 1999, the city has hosted dozens of regional and national AAU basketball events. This year, 53 teams from 16 states including Utah, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Michigan, Maryland, Louisiana, Indiana and most states bordering Tennessee, will make their way to Clarksville for championship play.
