CMCSS names CHS Principal Jena Luna Director of High Schools
CMCSS Announces Other Appointments
Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has made four administrative appointments for leadership positions.
Jean Luna is named the Director of High Schools for CMCSS. She has 19 years of experience in education in the states of Iowa, Washington, North Carolina and Tennessee. She will earn her doctorate of education from Lipscomb University this December.
Clarksville’s Movies in the Park to feature APSU PeayClipse talk on “The Secret Lives of Astronomers”
Clarksville, TN – As part of the ongoing PeayClipse lecture series, Austin Peay State University faculty member Dr. J. Allyn Smith will present a talk titled, “The Secret Lives of Astronomers” at 7:00pm on July 22nd, 2017 during the City of Clarksville’s Movies in the Park Series, at McGregor Park.
The talk will take place prior to the evening’s featured film, “The Secret Lives of Pets.”
New Austin Peay State University scholarship honors trailblazing history professor Betty Joe Wallace
Clarksville, TN – Earlier this year, several of Betty Joe Wallace’s friends and former students gathered in the Austin Peay State University Morgan University Center for a special memorial dinner honoring the late history professor.
On that winter evening, under the warm lights of the center’s ballroom, attendees heard familiar stories about this trailblazing woman who helped found both the African-American Studies and the Women’s and Gender Studies programs at Austin Peay.

Austin Peay State University student David Woods begins work on tree inventory of Clarksville campus
Clarksville, TN – There is a tree near the Browning and McCord Buildings on the campus of Austin Peay State University that has seen it all.
Over the years, the massive oak has watched Austin Peay grow from a normal school to a college to a University with over 10,000 students, all the while withstanding the passage of time — and the pounding of an F4 tornado that devastated Clarksville in 1999.

Visit Clarksville announces 2017-18 Chairman and Board Members
Clarksville, TN – The Visit Clarksville board of directors announces that Jerry Allbert has been named chairman for the 2017-18 year beginning July 1st, 2017
Allbert is director of the Montgomery County Parks Department and represents District 20 on the County Commission. He has served on the board since 2007 and as chairman in 2009-10.
Clarksville Regional Airport to hold Total Solar Eclipse Viewing
Clarksville, TN – A once-in-a-lifetime sky gazing opportunity will occur this summer and Clarksville Regional Airport (CKV – Outlaw Field) is inviting the community to watch this historic phenomenon from the grounds of the airport.
A total Solar Eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21st, 2017 and Clarksville Regional will host a free-to-the-public Solar Eclipse Viewing Event from noon until 3:00pm.
APSU student White wins first place at international glass and optics meeting
Clarksville, TN – Held in Waikoloa, Hawaii, the 2017 Glass and Optical Materials Division Meeting (GOMD) of the Materials Ceramic Society was an international affair, attracting hundreds of scientists from over 25 countries.
More than just a professional conference, GOMD also welcomed students from around the world, giving each a chance to learn from experts and discover the next steps in their academic and professional careers.

Back to School Splash provides school supplies, fun
Clarksville, TN – Join Clarksville Parks and Recreation for a pool party from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Saturday, August 5th, 2017 at the annual Back to School Splash.
Registered students will enjoy a fun time around the pool and will receive a backpack full of grade-appropriate school supplies. The Splash is open to incoming kindergarten through 12th grade students.
