    Clarksville Street Department Fall Yard Debris Pick Up

    City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Street Department will pick up your yard debris if it is in paper yard bags and if your branches/limbs are less than 3 feet long. All of your yard debris needs to be stacked in your yard close to the street.

    When you are ready to have your yard debris picked up, contact the street department. The Street Department Office Hours are Monday- Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. They can be contacted at Phone: 931.645.7464

     

    New service-learning class providing language help for APSU students and local Hispanic community

    Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – On a recent Tuesday night, a group of Austin Peay State University students gathered inside a local church – Iglesia Casa de Restauracion. About half of the students went into a makeshift classroom to help adult members of the Clarksville Hispanic community learn English.

    At the end of the 45-minute lesson, those Hispanic students then became the teachers, helping the APSU students with their Spanish skills.

    APSU Spanish 2000 students and members of the local Hispanic community meet at the Iglesia Casa de Restauracion Church for a new service-learning ESL course.

    On November 10th, the Chamber will be hosting the 20th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast at the Austin Peay State University Morgan Center. The morning will begin with a buffet style breakfast at 7:30am followed by a salute to our veterans and then will conclude with COL Andrew P. Poppas, Deputy Commander (Operations), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), serving as the keynote speaker.

    The show, featuring recent new media works by Cantrell is running now through November 28th.

    Downtown for the HolidaysClarksville, TN – Be a part of a Clarksville tradition by celebrating this year at the 6th Annual Downtown for the Holidays celebration presented by the City of Clarksville and Montgomery County Government, in Downtown Clarksville, December 1st, 2012.

    The event kicks off with the Jingle Bell Jog 5K hosted by the City of Clarksville and Run for a Reason. The 5K race will begin at 8:00am, in downtown Clarksville. Registration is available now at www.active.com.

    Judy Morgan’s ‘Artful Expressions’ on Display at Planters-Hilldale Gallery in November

    Planters BankClarksville, TN – Judy Morgan always loved creating art – even from an early age. But it wasn’t until she retired from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System that she finally had time to devote to painting.

    The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will feature Morgan’s work November 1st-December 5th in an exhibit titled, “Artful Expressions.” The exhibit will include 12 watercolor and mixed media pieces.

    Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – There’s a small book on Darren Michael’s desk filled with black and white images of shorthaired flappers and young jazz musicians from the 1920s. Earlier in the semester, the Austin Peay State University associate professor of theater flipped through the book to find the right look for his new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”

    “We’re setting it in the late 1920s in the coastal Carolina and Florida area,” he said. “There’s a lot of art deco going on. There will be a lot of early blues and early jazz music playing through it. It’s a lot of fun.” «Read the rest of this article»
