Clarksville Parks and Recreation Facility Hours to Change for CMCSS Fall Break
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Crow Community Center, Burt-Cobb Community Center, Kleeman Community Center and Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence will adjust their hours of operation for the Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) Fall Break.
From October 14th-18th, all three community centers will be open from 10:00am to 7:00pm Monday-Thursday, and 10:00am to 6:00pm Friday. New APSU scholarship to honor legendary basketball coach Ben Fendley
Clarksville, TN – For 34 years, if you wanted to play basketball at Clarksville High School, you had to first survive the grueling practices of that school’s legendary coach, Ben Fendley. The U.S. Marine Corps and Korean War veteran knew what his players were capable of achieving, so he made sure they went home exhausted each night.

Habitat for Humanity and Sango United Methodist Church Prepare for 2013 Sango Scamper Road Race
Clarksville, TN – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County Tennessee accepted a donation from Pastor Willie Lyle of the Sango United Methodist Church (UMC) this week from the proceeds of the 2011 Sango Scamper Road Race.

Crow Community Center Resuming Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Tai Chi program
Clarksville, TN – The Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road, will resume sessions of Tai Chi for Arthritis, beginning October 15th! Tai Chi for Arthritis will take place every Wednesday, 4:00pm to 5:00pm, from October 15th through November 26th.
Instructed by Stuart Bonnington, this program is open to adults of any age who may be suffering from arthritis. Bonnington is certified by the Arthritis Foundation as an instructor of their Tai Chi for Arthritis program. «Read the rest of this article»

Customs House Museum Presents the 3rd Annual Laying Low
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, October 12th, Laying Low is back for its third installment to benefit the Customs House Museum. Originally created as a laid-back alternative to the annual Flying High fundraiser, Laying Low is an outdoor event suitable for the fall season.

APSU’s Minoa Uffelman contributes to new book on progressive Tennessee women
Clarksville, TN – In a cemetery in Gallatin, Tennessee, Virginia P. Moore’s headstone reads, “One of the First Five Home Demonstration Agents in the World.”
The inscription, at first, doesn’t sound too glamorous. In the early 20th century, home demonstration agents traveled to rural communities, teaching farmwomen skills such as how to can and preserve vegetables. Moore did this in Tennessee, visiting impoverished areas to organize tomato and canning clubs in the days before 4-H.

Lynne Griffey Shows Watercolors from Beach Poetry Book at Planters Bank in October
Clarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will show watercolor illustrations from local artist Lynne Griffey now through Wednesday, November 6th. The paintings are all featured in a newly published book by local author Nancy Sneed, “Grains of Sand: Beach Poems.”
Griffey and Sneed, both retired Clarksville educators, combined their talents to produce a book the entire family can enjoy. “Grains of Sand” is a collection of poems that tell the story of a family vacation to the beach, from packing to reliving the trip through the photo album.

Kristy Landers Niedenfuer Crowned Miss Tennessee USA 2014; Morgan Moseley Crowned Miss Tennessee Teen USA
Clarksville, TN – Miss Tennessee USA was crowned Saturday night, making her Tennessee’s next hopeful in the 2014 Miss USA pageant. Kristy Landers Niedenfuer, of Nashville, accepted her new crown from the reigning Miss Tennessee USA, Brenna Mader of Nashville.
Runners-up for the Miss Tennessee USA pageant were Sarah Stonier (fourth), Devin Grissom (third), Lauren Tangard (second) and Kristen Rose (first).
Miss Tennessee USA 2014, Kristy Landers Niedenfuer, accepts her crown from Miss Tennessee USA 2013, Brenna Mader, and Miss Tennessee Tenn USA 2014, Morgan Moseley.
