Austin Peay professor Sharon Mabry to speak at Woodward Library Society event April 21st
Clarksville, TN – Dr. Sharon Mabry may be a nationally renowned singer and performer, but the Austin Peay State University professor of music is also a gifted storyteller. Have you heard her tell the one about her concert in Boston, when the hotel gave away her reservation?
“Finally the (concierge) says, ‘well OK, I found a place for you to go,’” Mabry said. “We followed him through this beautiful lobby, we followed him out the back door, down an alley way into this strange place, knocked on a door that looked like a speakeasy. There was this long hallway with bare bulbs everywhere. It ended up, we stayed in these little cubicles for the night. These cells. There was no television. There was just a bed. It was clean but that’s about all you can say.”

Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s 50+ Olympics registration underway
Clarksville, TN – Adults at least 50-years-old can register now through Monday, May 5th, 2014 for Clarksville’s 50-Plus Olympics.
This year’s events will be held May 13th-17th at various locations around Clarksville, to include the Pinnacle Bowling Center, Swan Lake Sports Complex, Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, Rossview High School track, Crow Community Center and Kleeman Community Center. «Read the rest of this article»
APSU Choral Activities hosting “Big Sing” on April 14th
Clarksville, TN – In 1901, French composer Louis Vierne stunned churchgoers at the Saint-Sulpice Cathedral in Paris with the premier of his organ and choral work, “Messe Solennelle.” The dramatic composition moved many attending the mass that day, and in the century that followed, the work has continued to fascinate choral or organ enthusiasts.
At 5:30pm on April 14th, more than 120 singers will join organist Rev. Jared Wilson in a performance of the Kyrie section of this work in the Austin Peay State University Mabry Concert Hall. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan Will Lead the Annual Walk MS Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at Liberty Park
Clarksville, TN – “I am so excited to be leading this walk. The Mid-South Chapter of the National MS Society does a tremendous job of supporting people with MS and those who care about them. This is an important fundraising opportunity because the funds raised give hope to the people living with MS in our community,” said Clarksville Mayor McMillan. “And the walk is really a lot of fun.”

Austin Peay Department of Theatre and Dance closes season with “Dark of the Moon”
Clarksville, TN – Long before the “Twilight” saga or “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” examined the complicated relationships between mortals and monsters, there was the story of a young witch named John who fell in love with a human girl named Barbara.
Their doomed affair, set in a superstitious community in the Smokey Mountains, is the focus of Howard Richardson and William Berney’s 1945 play “Dark of the Moon.”
