APSU named Great College to Work For
Clarksville, TN – For the fourth consecutive year, Austin Peay State University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a recent survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. In addition, APSU is the only university in Tennessee to make the national publication’s “Great Colleges to Work For 2015” list.
The results were released earlier this week in The Chronicle’s eighth annual report on The Academic Workplace.

APSU included among top universities for adult, nontraditional learners
Clarksville, TN – A life of learning is at the heart of Austin Peay State University’s mission. With that goal, APSU recently joined the Coalition of Adult Learning Focused Institutions (ALFI).
ALFI institutions seek to advance programs and promote services for adult students. To do that, they observe their adult degree programs and share “best practices.”

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for July 25th through July 31st, 2015
Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.
Some of the upcoming events include: Cooling at the Cave, and Cave Hikes.
Cumberland Winds Jazz Project to play at Cooling in the Cave this Saturday, July 25th at Dunbar Cave.

LEAP Organization Takes Group to New York for 5th Annual Education Excursion
Clarksville, TN – New York City was the destination for the LEAP Organization’s 5th Annual Education Excursion. Youth from Clarksville along with chaperones and community members embarked on a four day journey to New York to educate LEAP youth by exposing them to other cities, their cultural differences and historical landmarks.
Places that were visited included the 911 Tribute Center and Memorial Center, Rockefeller Center/Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Luna Park Coney Island, Madison Square Garden, and Madame Tussauds Celebrity Wax Museum in addition to several museums and sight-seeing cruises.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library Board approves new Strategic Plan
Includes proposal for Expansion of Library Services in Montgomery County
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library Board of Trustees approved a Strategic Plan at their July 15th Board meeting that will guide the library through proposed growth and expansion of services in Montgomery County, putting forth an outline that will transform the current single main library into a library system by 2020.
The Strategic Plan was developed through a combination of a community survey, Library staff and Library Board members input, and a community input retreat, which included County Commissioners and other leaders and was held in March of 2015.

Be More Like Wade Scholarship Fund 5k run to take place Saturday, July 25th
Cunningham, TN – In honor of Wade Morgan’s memory a “Be More Like Wade Scholarship” 5K will take place Saturday, July 25th, 2015 at the Central Civitan Club building just before the 107th annual Lone Oak Picnic. Registration starts at 8:00am and the race is slated for 8:30am.
All proceeds will go into a scholarship fund which will be given to a Montgomery Central Senior who demonstrates similar characteristics of #bemorelikewade. He exemplified the true meaning of a genuine person by being a selfless individual and always having an optimistic outlook on life.

Clarksville Civil War Roundtable’s next meeting is July 22nd, 2015
Our 136th meeting on a special different night
Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Medical Center. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.
The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Clarksville Downtown Market will close early Saturday, July 18th due to heat
Clarksville, TN – Due to the forecasted extreme heat and humidity, the Clarksville Downtown Market will close early on Saturday, July 18th.
The Clarksville Downtown Market will be open from 8:00am to noon on Public Square. Get a head start on your holiday shopping as the North Pole invades the Market this Saturday. Not only will the Market be decked out in Christmas décor, but vendors will be selling Christmas items, too.
Customers are also advised to leave their dogs at home. Asphalt gets very hot and can burn your pet’s paws.
