Registration now open for APSU Community School of the Arts’ July and August art and dance classes
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Community School of the Arts is now accepting registrations for July and August classes in art and dance.
Two art camps are scheduled for July 11th-15th. Art for Children, ages 6-10 years, will meet from 9:00am to noon. This class offers diverse, real studio-based art education in a wide range of visual media.

City’s Independence Day Celebration takes place July 3rd
Clarksville, TN – City of Clarksville will celebrate our nation’s independence this year with the ninth annual Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 at Liberty Park. The event is free and open to the public.
Activities and music will begin at 6:00pm Seating is available throughout the park and the concerts will take place on the Great Lawn of the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. Concessions are for sale throughout the park.
Clarksville’s Independence Day Celebration will take place at Liberty Park Sunday July 3rd, 2016.

Honest-1 Auto Care becomes Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification
Montgomery County, TN – The latest business to complete the requirements for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program and become Green Certified is Honest-1 Auto Care.

Austin Peay State University Student Presented Learning Opportunity During Military Operation in Bulgaria
Land Between the Lakes, KY/TN – Visitors searching for a traditional family-oriented celebration may visit the Homeplace 1850s Farm on the Fourth of July at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.
Celebrate Independence Day from 1:00pm-4:00pm on Monday, July 4th, 2016 with races, skillet tossing, horse shoes, old-time music, toys, and games. Admission is $5.00 ages 13 and up; $3.00 ages 5-12; free for ages 4 and under, and includes all the day’s activities and programs.

Montgomery County Health Department encourages Healthy Eating at Clarksville Downtown Market
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 18th, Clarksville Parks and Recreation held a Health and Fitness Day at the Clarksville Downtown Market. The Montgomery County Health Department had a booth and were giving out samples and the recipe for Citrusy Pico De Galio.
“A couple of times a year, Parks and Recreation invites us to come down to the Downtown Market and encourage healthy eating habits,” said Montgomery County Public Health Director Joey Smith.
The booth was so busy that they ran out of tortilla chips and had to go out for more.
Montgomery County Health Educator Megan Carroll was at the Clarksville Downtown Market this past Saturday handing out samples of freshly made Citrusy Pico De Galio.

Austin Peay State University College of Education prepares local teachers for 2017 solar eclipse
Clarksville, TN – More than 4,000 years ago, Chung K’ang, the fourth emperor of the Hea dynasty in China, reportedly executed two astronomers named Hi and Ho because they didn’t predict a solar eclipse.
“So (an eclipse) is a very important thing; it can be life-threatening,” Dr. Rex Gandy, Austin Peay State University provost and vice president of academic affairs, joked recently. “And it’s pretty amazing. The sun is 90 million miles away, and it’s huge, so what are the odds that there is this little rock a quarter million miles away that just blots out the sun almost perfectly.”

Vendor Applications Now Being Accepted for 11th Annual “Frolic on Franklin”, September 24th
Clarksville, TN – Applications are now being accepted for booth space at the 11th annual “Frolic on Franklin: A Celebration of the Arts.”
The event will be held on Saturday, September 24th, from 8:30am to 3:30pm, in the 100-block of historic Franklin Street in downtown Clarksville.
Coordinated by the Roxy Regional Theatre, the street event offers 30 vendor spaces where artists can showcase and sell fine arts and handcrafted items, including photography, paintings and drawings, pottery, jewelry, glass items and more.

APSU hosting topping out ceremony for Art and Design Building on June 27th
Clarksville, TN – At 9:00am on Monday, June 27th, the community is invited to a topping out ceremony at the construction site for Austin Peay State University’s new Art and Design Building.
Topping out ceremonies traditional occur when the last steel beam is attached to a building during its construction.

Gregory Singleton named to ODK National Advisory Committee
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) National Leadership Honor Society was recently the recipient of the ODK Superior Circle Award, distinguishing it as one of the best chapters in the nation.
Bestowed upon circles nationally that exhibit outstanding programming and leadership development opportunities for their members, the APSU Circle was lauded as an example of “continuing a culture of excellence” on campus.

Acclaimed flautist William Bennett returns to Austin Peay State University for Summer Flute Academy, June 24th performance
Clarksville, TN – Once again William Bennett has chosen Austin Peay State University (APSU) as the site of his Summer Flute Academy—his only master class offered in the U.S.
An Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his distinguished services to music, every summer Bennett, one of Britain’s greatest flautists, leaves overcast England to spend a week in the humid air hovering around Clarksville Tennessee.
