    Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to host yet another float event for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. The next float is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 17th.

    Participants will float approximately 2 miles on the West Fork Red River from Robert Clark Park to Billy Dunlop Park. Canoes and kayaks must be dropped off by 7:30am at Robert Clark Park.

    Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, is excited to present “Sevier Days,” an 18th century, pre-Civil War event from 9:00am to 1:00pm on Friday, September 16th and 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, September 17th, 2016.

    Growing APSU Classics Program launches scholarly journal

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Classics Program continues to grow, both in student enrollment and in its national reputation, and to take advantage of this recent momentum, the program has launched a national scholarly publication, Philomathes: A Journal of Undergraduate Research in Classics.

    The new online journal will publish original research by undergraduate students in any area of Classics.

    Austin Peay State University supporters Bibb and Lott honored with TBR’s Chancellor Award

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Last month, during Austin Peay State University’s 58th Annual Tower Club Dinner Meeting, longtime APSU supporters Jeff Bibb and Frank Lott were honored with the Tennessee Board of Regents’ 2016 Chancellor Award for Excellence in Philanthropy.

    “For nearly two decades, Jeff Bibb and Frank Lott have quietly supported Austin Peay State University, with many in the community not realizing how vital they are to this institution,” TBR Chancellor David Gregory said. “Austin Peay is a stronger institution because of their support and generosity, and their creative talents will allow this institution to attract new students and connect with successful alumni in the coming years.”

    Tennessee Driver’s License Renewal Available at Clarksville City Hall

    City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Area residents now have another location – Clarksville City Hall — where they can renew their driver’s licenses.

    Citizens can drop by the revenue collection office on the first floor at City Hall, One Public Square, from 7:30am to 5:00pm weekdays to renew or replace their state driver’s license or state identification card. There is free one-hour parking nearby.

    Austin Peay State University’s Perry Scanlan honored in Voices Under 40 program

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Earlier this summer, the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) named Dr. Perry Scanlan, Austin Peay State University professor of allied health sciences, as one of the recipients of its prestigious Voices Under 40 award.

    The award was developed to honor ASCLS members under the age of 40 who have shown exceptional commitment to the organization, the laboratory profession and their community.

    Pillar of Hope Exhibit

    Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government will once again display the Pillars of Hope exhibit at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 events.

    This collection of hand painted ceramic tiles was designed to be mini-memorials honoring the heroes of 9/11.

    September is National Hunger Action Month

    Empty Bowls ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – In America we tend to think of hunger as a minimal problem. But, it is estimated one in six Americans – and one in five children in the U.S. – are dealing with a very real hunger problem. Nearly 15 percent of Americans live in food insecure households, where a lack of money and/or resources means there isn’t consistent access to quality food and nutrition.

    September is National Hunger Action Month; nationwide people are asked to take action to fight hunger in their communities. Hunger Action Month offers an opportunity to share your time, talent and resources to impact your local food pantries and soup kitchens to help feed Clarksville-Montgomery County Residents who struggle every day.
