Clarksville Transit System’s “Spooky Special” set to roll for Halloween

Clarksville, TN – For Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, the Spooky Special is a happy place.
Riding the custom-decorated bus on the Hilldale route Saturday, she sang “The Wheels on the Bus” with a toddler, cheerfully helped passengers in wheel chairs navigate the bus aisle, and greeted each Clarksville Transit System rider and employee with a big smile – all while sporting a really classy pirate costume.

APSU biology grad students continue to excel in their research
Clarksville, TN – Since about 1950, the small-scale darter—a tiny fish that lives in tributaries of the Cumberland River—has existed in relative obscurity. Few scientists have heard of the darter or checked to see if the fish is in danger of disappearing.
But for the last year and a half, Joshua Stonecipher, a graduate student with the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for Field Biology, has waded into local streams, trying to get an accurate estimate of the darter’s population size.

APSU Field Biology graduate student Joshua Stonecipher has received three grants to study the darter fish that lives in tributaries of the Cumberland River.

“Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein” to be shown Sunday at Roxy Regional Theatre
“Planters Bank Presents…” Film Series
Clarksville, TN -The next movie in the “Planters Bank Presents…” film series will be “Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein”. This movie will be shown this Sunday, October 20th, 2016 at the Roxy Regional Theatre at 2:00pm.
“Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein” is about two hapless train freight handlers that find themselves encountering Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster and the Wolf Man when dealing with a shipment destined for a local wax museum, “McDougal House Of Horrors”.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library to hold Halloween Sensory Story Time this Sunday, October 30th
Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library is having a special Halloween Sensory Story Time on Sunday, October 30th at 1:30pm.
Sensory story times are geared towards children who have a hard time in large groups, are on the Autism Spectrum, or are sensitive to sensory overload. We will use pre-school level books, songs and movement during these story times.

APSU’s popular Halloween Concert returns for 32nd year on October 28th
Clarksville, TN – David Steinquest, Austin Peay State University professor of music, sat rubbing his gray beard, looking a little tired. For thirty-two years, he’s hosted the APSU Department of Music’s wildly popular Halloween Percussion Concert, and each fall, he tries to top the previous year’s performance.
“This is the biggest one ever,” he said, slumping in his chair. “I might have to just quit now.”

APSU Career Services welcomes Amazon to Campus
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Office of Career Services welcomed Amazon to campus in September 2016. The University was among the first 12 schools from across the country selected to participate in Amazon’s new Warrior Ambassador Program.
Through this program, the company’s Warrior Ambassadors (military veterans that work at Amazon) will visit the veteran centers and career centers at universities located near Amazon fulfillment centers across the nation.

Friends of the Library Book Sale kicks off Thursday, October 27th
Clarksville, TN – The annual Friends of the Library fall book sale will open Thursday, October 27th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Opening night will be a Friends-only preview. Anyone may join the Friends of the Library at the door for $5.00.
The sale will open for the general public on Friday, October 28th from 9:00am to 5:00pm and will continue Saturday, October 29th from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Family-Owned Alabama Company Buys Cougar Packaging
Clarksville, TN – Rusken Packaging, Inc. announces the purchase of Clarksville-owned Cougar Packaging. All employees will continue with the new company, and former Cougar owners Gerri and Larry Wallace will continue in their roles for six months to ensure a smooth transition.
Rusken Packaging, a private, family-owned, $130 million company, manufactures corrugated cardboard boxes used for shipping.
