Clarksville, TN – The “Planters Bank Presents…” film series next movie is “Forest Gump”. This movie will be shown this Sunday, July 2nd, 2017 at the Roxy Regional Theatre at 2:00pm.
Slow-witted Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life.
Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism.

Astronaut Rhea Seddon to give free talk at Austin Peay on August 20th as part of PeayClipse celebration
Clarksville, TN – On April 12th, 1985, Dr. Rhea Seddon sat on 4.5 million pounds of explosives. It was a moment she’d been preparing for most of her life, but that didn’t stop her from feeling a little anxious.
“It’s pretty scary those first few minutes,” she said during a 2015 AuthorSpeak event at the Linebaugh Library. “You feel this giant explosion way back behind you, and it feels like you’re going to blow up.”

Children’s Auditions for “The Wizard of Oz” at the Roxy Regional Theatre on Saturday, July 8th
Clarksville, TN – Local youth will have the opportunity to work alongside professional actors when the Roxy Regional Theatre holds children’s auditions for Munchkins and other ensemble characters in “The Wizard of Oz” on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 at noon.
Children ages 8 and up should come prepared with “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead” and be dressed to move in comfortable clothing and shoes, as the audition will also include a dance portion.

Red River Breeze to perform at the Roxy Regional Theatre, July 22nd
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, July 22nd, 2017, Travel back in time to the age of the troubadours to experience “Merrie Market Music” with a Celtic flair, performed by popular local music group Red River Breeze at the Roxy Regional Theatre. The concert starts at 7:00pm.
Featuring Stephanie Taylor on hammered dulcimer, recorders and bodhran; Melanie Beck on fiddle, bouzouki and mandolin; Vanessa Green on Irish whistle, guitar and harp; Esther Sooter on cello and vocals; David Magers on guitar, hammered dulcimer, djembe and vocals; and Nate Wojociechowski on djembe and hammered dulcimer.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Recertification Refresher Class at Agero
Montgomery County, TN – On Tuesday, June 20th, Agero hosted the Clarksville-Montgomery County’s Green Certification Program’s refresher class. Thirty-one attendees representing many of the organizations that originally certified in 2013 and 2015 participated in the class.
The class reviewed the latest environmental concerns in our community, discussed the impacts on the environment, and shared their ideas and continued improvements within their own organizations.

Austin Peay alumnus, staff member Button enrolls in doctorate program at Johns Hopkins
Clarksville, TN – The associate director of Austin Peay State University’s Office of Financial Aid, Johnathan Button, has spent the better part of a decade finding ways for APSU students to finance their education.
Himself a former student worker in the department, Button found his calling at a time when Austin Peay and its rapidly-growing student population needed him the most.

City of Clarksville to hold Independence Day event at Liberty Park July 3rd, 2017
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville will present its 10th annual Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 3rd, 2017 at Liberty Park. The event is free and open to the public.
Liberty Park will open at 5:00pm and activities and music will begin at 6:30pm. Seating is available throughout the park and the concerts will take place on the Great Lawn of the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

Austin Peay State University hosting educational fair for school-age children the morning of August 21st Eclipse
Clarksville, TN – At 10:00am on August 21st, 2017, the day of the Total American Eclipse—Austin Peay State University will host a special PeayClipse Educational Experience for school-age children in the campus’ basketball arena, the Dunn Center.
“We have 10 different activity stations for them to move through that are educational and fun,” Dr. Karen Meisch, associate dean of the APSU College of Science and Mathematics, said.

City of Clarksville dedicates Born Learning Trail at Liberty Park
Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, United Way, Happy Kids open Outdoor Resource
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, United Way Executive Ginna Holleman and a playful group of Head Start students opened the Born Learning Trail at Liberty Park on Wednesday.
The project is a partnership between the City of Clarksville and the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region.

Youngsters from the Lafayette Road Head State gathered Wednesday with Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan at Liberty Park for the grand opening of the Born Learning Trail, a United Way sponsored interactive set of activities for young children and their caregivers.
