    During that time period, APSU faculty and staff aggressively pursued outside funding to support research, student success initiatives and community outreach programs, resulting in a 76-percent increase in external grants over the previous year.

    Comedy “Boeing, Boeing” opens at Cumberland Arts Centre August 18th

    Cumberland Arts Centre Dinner Theatre - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – “Boeing, Boeing”, the hilarious high-flying comedy by Marc Camoletti, opens this weekend at the Cumberland Arts Centre Dinner Theatre in Downtown Clarksville.

    The play involves a Paris bachelor who is keeping 3 ladies on the string. All three ladies are Air Hostesses for 3 major airlines and have 3 different schedules.

    But, with the advent of the new Boeing jet planes, the schedules become harder to keep up with. Laughter ensues when all 3 ladies show up on the same day.

    Planters Bank Presents at the Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – The “Planters Bank Presents…” film series to show “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” this Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at the Roxy Regional Theatre at 2:00pm. Then on Monday, August 21th, there will be a special screening of “2001: A Space Odyssey” at 6:00pm to cap off the Total Solar Eclipse.

    “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” is a classic sci-fi tale about ordinary people and their extraordinary meetings with extraterrestrials. After an encounter with U.F.O.s, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen.

    Clarksville Civil War RoundtableClarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Tennova Healthcare. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

    The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

    Movies in the Park - Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Movies in the Park, the City of Clarksville’s free, outdoor movie series, continues on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 with the showing of “Space Jam” at Liberty Park’s amphitheater, 1188 Cumberland Drive.

    Pre-show activities, coordinated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, will begin at 6:00pm.

    Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Dennis Pulley will present a session about “Leather Tanning” at 1:00pm Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at Clarksville’s Fort Defiance Civil War Park as part of an educational series, Life in the 1800s.

    Visitors will be able to view and learn about leather tanning techniques from the 19th century, including information about types of leather and tools used during the tanning process.

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University recently entered into a formal exchange agreement with the University of Burgos, Spain, ranked as one of the top institutions of its size among Spanish universities.

    Located in Burgos, capital city of the province of the same name and located halfway between Madrid and the French Border, the University of Burgos boasts an enrollment of around 10,000 students, with over 30 different undergraduate degree programs and over 20 PhD programs, as well as several master’s and graduate-level courses.

    Back at school, ‘Kindness is Cool’

    City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett have proclaimed August as “Kindness is Cool — Back to School Month.”

    Durrett and Clarksville Mayor Pro Tem Valerie Guzman presented the proclamation Tuesday at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library as part of Clarksville Kindness Rocks project to promote random acts of kindness using art as a creative way to touch people.
