APSU launches Gov Life ongoing series of student success profiles
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) sophomore Elijah-Pharaoh Carter, better known as the “Violin Guy”, spends every Friday entertaining students passing through campus by playing his violin, an instrument he has studied most of his life and has performed with on the stage of New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall.
But Carter’s story is not defined by an instrument — or a funny nickname, for that matter. While music was his first love, the Memphis native came to Austin Peay in pursuit of a different dream — earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Planters Bank Presents the Christmas movie “Elf” at the Roxy Regional Theatre
“Planters Bank Presents…” Film Series
Clarksville, TN – The “Planters Bank Presents…” film series to show “Elf” this Sunday, December 17th, 2017 at the Roxy Regional Theatre at 2:00pm.
Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father.
As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.

Montgomery Central High School and Elementary School are Points of Pride
Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery Central High School counselor Bethany Erb was named Tennessee High School Counselor of the Year by the Tennessee School Counseling Association.
Montgomery Central Elementary School has been selected as one of two Tennessee schools named to the National Title I Distinguished School Program.

Dr. Mickey Hepner appointed new dean of APSU College of Business
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has appointed Dr. Mickey A. Hepner as the new dean of APSU’s College of Business, effective January 2nd, 2018.
Hepner comes to Austin Peay from the University of Central Oklahoma, where he served as dean of the university’s College of Business from 2011-17, as well as a professor in the college.

Downtown Commons events for the week of December 12th, 2017
Montgomery County, TN – The Downtown Commons Holiday Ice Rink is currently open Monday through Friday at 5:00pm, Saturday at 11:00am, and Sunday at 2:00pm. Each night the last skate session starts at 8:00pm.
Reservations are not required but are recommended for groups larger than ten during evening sessions. Private Ice Sessions are also available by reservation.

2nd Annual Community Messiah Sing to be December 17th
Clarksville, TN – Area vocalists are invited to sing in a community choir presentation of the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah at Madison Street United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 at 7:00pm.
The event is free and open to the public.

101st Airborne Band Cumberland Winds Brass Quintet to perform at Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library on the 12th and 13th
Clarksville, TN – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band will perform in the atrium of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library on Tuesday, December 12th from 6:00pm–7:00pm.
The show will feature several different types of musical groupings for an hour-long concert. Musical offerings will be holiday standards played both traditionally and with a jazzy flair and with vocal performances by band members.

APSU to offer executive education programs for working professionals this spring
Clarksville, TN – This spring, Austin Peay State University will launch its first executive education program, providing working professionals with the training and credentials they need to enhance and elevate their careers.
As part of this historic new push, the University is transforming the 13,000-square-foot 317 College Street facility (formerly the Jenkins and Wynne Honda Building) into an executive education building.

Clarksville, TN – On December 15th, 2017 Austin Peay State University professor of languages and literature Dr. Steven Ryan will deliver the keynote address at the APSU Winter Commencement. He will speak at both ceremonies, at 9:00am and 2:00pm, in the University’s Dunn Center.
