Austin Peay music professor performs at Carnegie Hall and throughout China

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Spencer Prewitt, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of music, recently finished a whirlwind tour of China as well as an impressive performance at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City.
As a part of a long-term relationship-building project, Prewitt traveled throughout China October 8th-19th to perform, teach and promote the opportunities for international students available at APSU.

APSU honoring veterans and active-duty personnel during Military Appreciation Football Game November 17th

Clarksville, TN – November isn’t a typical month at Austin Peay State University (APSU). As the state’s leader in higher education for military-affiliated students, the institution traditionally recognizes the entire month, with its connection to Veterans Day, as an extended salute to all veterans and active-duty military personnel.

In previous years, the Austin Peay State University football team has worn special uniforms to honor the military.

Outdoor Ice Rink Opening Soon at Downtown Commons
Downtown Commons
Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County is thrilled to announce the opening of the Downtown Commons Winter Ice Rink on November 23rd, 2018! This is the second consecutive year for the outdoor rink, which will be significantly larger than it was last year.
During most of the year, the Downtown Commons is a large open lawn, but in late fall through early winter it is transformed into an ice rink. Although Downtown Commons was not complete when the ice rink opened last November, it was still very successful with more than 9,000 skaters and thousands of onlookers. This year, with the park completed and a larger rink, at least twice as many skaters are expected. Golly G’s will also be up and running ready to serve at Downtown Commons when the rink opens.

APSU computer science student wins at Georgia Tech hackathon

Clarksville, TN – Robyn Yates is having one heck of a hacking season representing Austin Peay State University (APSU).
At the VolHacks hackathon in September at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she and her Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) teammates won several top honors, including for the “Pi-Mail” hack she and three other team members worked on.

Austin Peay State University senior Robyn Yates was part of a team that won two awards at VolHacks at the University of Tennessee and an individual award at HackGT at Georgia Tech.

Project Yesu to hold Annual Orphan Luncheon Fundraiser November 18th

Clarksville, TN – Project Yesu, a Clarksville nonprofit which supports orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda, is holding their annual Orphan Luncheon fundraiser on Sunday, November 18th, 2018 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Belle Hollow.
The theme of this year’s luncheon is “Celebrations & Stories,” where organizers will share memories of where they’ve been, and where they plan on going in the future.

Jennifer Hinote to serve as Clarksville Academy Head of School

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Academy, a Pre-K through 12th grade private college preparatory school, announced Friday that Jennifer Hinote will serve as the seventh Head of School at Clarksville Academy.
Mrs. Hinote has over 29 years of comprehensive experience in education. She comes to Clarksville Academy from Oak Hill School in Nashville, where she served as Head of School for eight years.
