Clarksville Parks and Recreation offers free Arbor Day tree seedlings

Clarksville, TN – Free tree seedlings will be offered by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Friday, March 1st at the Smith Trahern Mansion in celebration of Arbor Day.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Arbor Day Foundation and designation as a Tree City USA, coupled with local support, seedlings of 10 species will be given away.

Clarksville, TN – During last year’s movie award season, people kept praising the film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” The movie’s star, Frances McDormand, earned a Best Actress Oscar, while cast member Sam Rockwell took home an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. A few weeks earlier, “Three Billboards” received a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. SAG voters might have picked the film because of a powerful scene, where McDormand’s character attacks a dentist named Geoffrey. The actor in that scene is Jerry Winsett, a 1974 Austin Peay State University graduate.
College of STEM awards research grants to five Austin Peay graduate students

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University College (APSU) of STEM recently awarded $500.00-$1,000 research grants to five graduate biology students. The research projects span from studying coal mining’s effects on a local fish to examining the history of the prairies of Middle Tennessee.

ALDI Brings Fresh Shopping Experience to Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – After 16 years serving the community, ALDI will open a new Clarksville location, offering a smarter, faster and easier grocery shopping experience. The new store will be located at 1570 Fort Campbell Boulevard, and will replace the current store located at 1626 Fort Campbell Boulevard, which will close its doors on Sunday, March 10th.
To celebrate the new store opening, ALDI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 14th at 8:45am, followed by its popular Golden Ticket giveaway offering gift cards to the first 100 customers. Shoppers can also sample ALDI-exclusive brand foods and enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year’s supply of ALDI produce.
APSU students discover work from two major artists in University’s collection

Clarksville, TN – As Austin Peay State University (APSU) freshman Sarah Potter combed through the University’s art collection in early February, she came across a photo of a man sitting on a rock, his back to the camera.
“I was looking for personality, for stories,” Potter, who’s curating an exhibit for the walls of Human Resources in the Browning Administration Building, said. “I liked it, so I set it aside with the other photographs.”

Clarksville, TN – On a mild November evening, Sidney Brown, 87, stood along the sidelines at Austin Peay State University’s Fortera Stadium. He wore a blue blazer, which sagged from all the medals pinned above the left pocket, and a ball cap for the 555th Parachute Infantry, the U.S. Army’s famed all-black airborne unit.

Candlelight Ball auction to raise money for APSU scholarships

Clarksville, TN – Every spring, the Austin Peay State University Candlelight Ball provides an evening of fine dining and dancing, while also allowing participants to support scholarships at Austin Peay State University, and this year’s event will include two signature auction items – a custom-designed diamond necklace and a Music City package featuring tickets to major Nashville events – valued at more than $5,000 each.
APSU Art+Design welcomes Smithsonian Award-winning graphic designer Gail Anderson to campus

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Art+Design, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome Gail Anderson, graphic designer and Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian, 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, to campus this week.
Her lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 6:00pm on Thursday, February 21st, in room 120 of the Austin Peay State University Art + Design building.
