Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) grad student Melody Shipley, a ceramics artist, planned to focus on her pottery full-time, but then in 2015, she went horseback riding.
It was something she did often on her family farm, but that afternoon Shipley ended up on ground, twisting her back and dislocated a rib.

Local teachers learn arts integration at CECA professional development workshop

Clarksville, TN – A couple of the grade school teachers held their hands overhead, their fingers dancing. Three other teachers squatted, kneeled or sat, waving their arms back and forth slowly.
In their slow dance, the teachers emulated stars twinkling over slowly moving mountains. In doing so, they were practicing arts integration, an approach to teaching various subjects, such as science, through art, such as dance.
City of Clarksville staff joins United Way drive

Clarksville, TN – City of Clarksville employees competed Tuesday in the 2nd Annual United Way Field Day event to kick-off the annual workplace giving campaign.
Twelve six-member teams from across the City of Clarksville gathered at the Wilma Rudolph Events Center compete in nine “minute-to-win-it” games, including Ping Pong Shake, Elephant March and Balloon Pop. Team names were equally creative, including Blue Light Special, Killa Watts, Perfectly Balanced and Codes Crusaders.
APSU’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter collecting books for Halloween event

Clarksville, TN – For the 16th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at Austin Peay State University (APSU) is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project.
Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or money for the purchase of books.
APSU honoring famed campus statue during November 1st celebration

Clarksville, TN – In 1986, communities across the state honored Tennessee’s cultural heritage during then-Governor Lamar Alexander’s yearlong Homecoming ’86 celebration.
In Clarksville, officials at Austin Peay State University participated in the event by commissioning Dr. James Diehr, professor of ceramics and sculpture, to produce a piece for the University’s front lawn.
