Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On Friday morning, September 21st, 2018 two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters will land on the Austin Peay State University campus for a special, joint training exercise between the University’s Governors Guard ROTC program and the Tennessee National Guard.

The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On Friday, September 14th, 2018 Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, who will leave office when his term ends later this fall, visited Austin Peay State University, and he asked the school’s Board of Trustees what he should tell his successor about the University. Don Jenkins, a trustee, immediately mentioned Austin Peay’s military focus.

“This is a very military-friendly town, but it’s an incredibly military-friendly college,” he said.

APSU names retired Brigadier General Scott Brower as inaugural military adviser in residence

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On September 1st, 2018 retired Brigadier General Scott E. Brower, former deputy commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division, joined Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) senior leadership team as the institution’s first military adviser in residence.

In this new role, Brower will advise the APSU leadership team on how the University can better serve its military students and help the University optimize the process of recruiting, enrolling and graduating military-connected students.

Customs House Museum to offer Free Fall Break Art Classes for Students

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center is offering a series of free art classes to students in grades 1-8 in October. This program, called ART 4 US, will take place during fall break (October 9th-12th).

The Museum recently received a generous Arts Engagement in American Communities grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which allows them to offer a series of free art-making experiences that will begin with these classes.

Michelle Obama portrait artist, Amy Sherald, to speak at APSU

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design, with support from The APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome internationally known artist, Amy Sherald, to Austin Peay State University.

Known for her stylized portraits of African-Americans, in 2016, Sherald was the first woman to win the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition; an accompanying exhibition, The Outwin 2016, was on tour through August 2018.
