8th Annual Young Women’s Leadership Symposium to be held at APSU, March 23rd
Clarksville, TN – Have you ever heard of Rosalind Franklin? In the early 1950s, the English chemist, working at King’s College London, produced an X-ray image that led scientists to finally identify the structure of DNA.
Nearly 10 years later, the famed Cambridge scientists James Watson and Francis Crick—not Franklin—were awarded the Nobel Prize for determining that structure.
APSU music grad student Hayden Giesseman wins state-wide research competition
Clarksville, TN – While an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University, Hayden Giesseman often heard his clarinet professor complain about audition music. Specifically, he didn’t like the outdated pieces musicians are often required to play when auditioning for a spot in an orchestra.
“Someone needs to update these excerpts,” the professor said. “No one plays these pieces anymore.”
Altra Federal Credit Union receives Diamond Award for Outstanding Marketing, Business Development Achievements

Austin Peay State University to name animal science building after Brock Blick on April 5th
Clarksville, TN – In late July 2017, Mark and Jeri Blick visited the Austin Peay State University farm to officially establish the Brock Blick Endowed Scholarship in Agriculture, in honor of their late son, Brock. Clarksville, TN – Eighty-three percent of all teens involved in vehicle-related fatalities were not wearing seatbelts. More than 22,000 Tennessee traffic crashes involved drivers under 21.
Distracted driving is one of the leading cause of vehicle accidents in the nation.
F2 Con Gaming Tournament Coming to Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – Visit Clarksville, CDE Lightband and Clarksville Parks and Recreation will host Clarksville’s first gaming and esports convention, F2 Con, Friday and Saturday, April 27th-28th at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.
The two-day competition is produced by Esports Now and offers tournament play, casual gaming and fun for all ages with retro gaming, vendors and live streaming competition. All gaming will take place on CDE Lightband’s gigabit internet.
Austin Peay State University English major earns graduate assistantship to Auburn University
Clarksville, TN – After spending most of her life in Nashville, Madison Hobson decided to try a smaller, more intimate environment for her college career.
“I came to Austin Peay for the smaller campus community,” she said. “I wanted to be able to stand out more than I would have at a bigger school. Also, it offered two big things that I wanted—affordability and a quality education.”
Customs House Museum & Cultural Center hold Opening Reception for New Exhibits
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville’s Customs House Museum held an opening reception March 8th to introduce five new exhibits that range from impressionistic figurative paintings, watercolors, and photography to Stories of Clarksville, and a celebration of Women in business.
On the main floor, in the Leaf Chronicle Lobby until April 29th, Celebrating Women in Business uses objects and images from the museum’s permanent collection to celebrate local businesses throughout Clarksville’s history that have been owned or founded by women. Visitors will learn about the Barbara Louise Hospital, First Women’s Bank, local beauty shops, and more.
