Event to Bring 1,400; $182,000 in Visitor Spending

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – More than 1,400 athletes, coaches, and spectators will visit Clarksville on Saturday, October 7th, 2017 for the Class A and AA Boys and Girls Cross Country State Championships.

Armed with tents, coolers and plenty of water, family members will cheer runners along the two-mile course beside the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center, 250 Old Farmers Road.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and SERVPRO of Montgomery County Fire & Water Cleanup & Restoration Company have teamed up to host a full barbecue competition experience.

The Clarksville BBQ Bash is free to the public and will be from 11:00am to 5:00pm Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center at Liberty Park, 1188 Cumberland Drive.

New Providence Pool opens for indoor season October 1st

Indoor facility offers swim lessons, fitness classes and special events

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s New Providence Pool, the only public indoor pool in the City of Clarksville, opens for its fall and winter indoor season on Sunday, October 1st, 2017.

New Providence Pool is at 168 Cunningham Lane, off Fort Campbell Boulevard. The pool offers swim lessons, water fitness classes, lap swim, and open swimming through May.

Riverfront Jerk Festival 3Clarksville, TN – Riverfront Jerk Festival 3 took place this past Weekend at McGregor Park, and organizers estimate this year’s crowd topped 3,500 people.

Billed as the Nashville/Clarksville Metropolitan Area’s Caribbean music and food festival. The 3rd annual one-day event featured more than two dozen food and craft vendors from as far away as Atlanta and Florida, representing many Caribbean islands.

Clarksville’s Quilts of Valor holds Sew for 22 event at Absolutely Fun Sewing

Quilts of Valor FoundationClarksville, TN – In bring awareness to the service members and veterans that take their lives everyday, Quilts of Valor, Quilting in Clarksville held a Sew for 22 event on September 22nd, 2017 at Absolutely Fun Sewing.

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs released a study which showed that roughly 22 veterans were dying by suicide per day, or one every 65 minutes.

“We do not want to continue to see this. One life is too many.” stated Roberta Samuels, Quilts of Valor. “So we organized this day with the idea from Cinde Jones with Absolutely Fun Sewing. She offered to allow us to sew in the store.”

APSU’s Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts announces 2017-18 Tennessee Artist Fellow

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA, or “seek-ah”) is pleased to announce that Andrew Scott Ross, of Johnson City, is the 2017-18 recipient of the Tennessee Artist Fellowship.

The CECA Tennessee Artist Fellowship was created to celebrate contemporary art and to support the continued creative work of exceptional Tennessee artists.

Inaugural Film Genre Festival brings sci-fi classics to APSU

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For five weeks in September and October, aliens, robots and a bleak, dystopian future will cast a shadow over Austin Peay State University’s Art and Design Building as the Department of Languages and Literature and the Film Studies minor present the inaugural Film Genre Festival.

On each Tuesday beginning September 26th and lasting through October 31st, a different film will be shown at 5:00pm in the Art and Design Building, room 120. All screenings are free and include an introduction from the Austin Peay professor who selected the film.
