Call for Artwork Submissions for 2018 Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the tenth annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.

Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Archeology may not be a career Austin Peay State University history graduate student Katelynn DiStefano is pursuing academically, but that did not stop the graduate assistant in the University’s Department of History and Philosophy from spending part of her summer searching for mummies along the northern coast of Peru.

DiStefano joined University of Alabama Ph.D. student Jenna Hurtubise, along with a small group of students and archeologists, in traveling to the South American country, where they continued Hurtubise’s work in excavating and analyzing the history of the Casma, an underexplored ancient Peruvian culture.

Visitor Spending in Montgomery County Tops $211 Million in 2016

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Kevin Triplett today announced Tennessee tourism’s direct domestic and international travel expenditures reached an all-time high of $19.3 billion in 2016, up 4.7 percent or almost $1 billion, over 2015. Numbers for Montgomery County increased to $211 million, up 3.0 percent, or $6 million, over the prior year.

For the ninth consecutive year, Montgomery County has ranked 11th among Tennessee counties for tourism spending. Ninety-two of the state’s 95 counties saw gains in tourism spending from 2015 to 2016.
