Known as “Christmas Creep,” this early arrival of the holidays is a tactic retailers commonly employ in their race against time toward a profitable holiday season.
As much as 30 percent of a store’s annual sales can come during the holiday season, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF), the largest retail industry trade association. Stocking holiday merchandise sooner gives retailers a jump on the competition and extends the amount of time consumers have to buy, for good reason.
APSU ROTC Cadet Zachary Lepley named 2017 Command Sgt. Maj. Darol Walker Award winner
Clarksville, TN – ROTC Cadet Zachary C. Lepley was presented the 2017 Command Sgt. Maj. Darol Walker Award during a breakfast ceremony held April 27th at Austin Peay State University.
Lepley is pursuing his Bachelor of Science in political science with a minor in military science from APSU.
TBR vice chair Emily Reynolds to speak at APSU commencement on May 5th
Clarksville, TN – Vice chair of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Emily Reynolds will deliver the keynote address at Austin Peay State University’s 88th Spring Commencement on May 5th in the University’s Dunn Center.
Reynolds has had an extensive career in public service and politics, having served under two U.S. senators from Tennessee—Senator Howard Baker and Senator Bill Frist. Both men also served as majority leader of the U.S. Senate.

Plano, TX – At Home Group Inc. (NYSE: HOME) will open its new Clarksville location on May 10th, at 2780 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
The home décor superstore will be more than 100,000 square-feet and is Tennessee’s 7th location, offering more than 50,000 home items from furniture, rugs, art and housewares to tabletop, patio and seasonal items.
Clarksville’s Valleybrook Park to get new Playgrounds
Clarksville, TN – Valleybrook Park, a neighborhood green space on Crossland Avenue near downtown, will be getting a $447,000 facelift thanks to a federal grant secured by the City of Clarksville.
Improvements include two new playgrounds, a new restrooms, a new pavilion, conversion of the current restrooms to an additional pavilion, and repaving of the parking lot.
Annual Industry Appreciation Lunch to be held May 11th

3rd annual Be More Like Wade Scholarship 5k Run/Walk/Crawl set for Saturday, July 29th
Cunningham, TN – On Saturday, July 30th, 2016 the 3nd annual “Be More Like Wade Scholarship” 5K Run/Walk will take place at the Montgomery Central Schools on Saturday, July 29th, 2017 in honor of Wade Morgan. Registration starts at 8:00am and the race is slated for 8:30am.
Tickets can be purchased online at ticketleap. Registration will also take place the day of the race.
All proceeds will be placed in the Scholarship Fund in Wade’s memory. Scholarships will be given to graduating Seniors at Montgomery Central High School who demonstrate similar characteristics of #bemorelikeWade.
APSU celebrates 90th anniversary with special event and tree planting
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University President Alisa White and her husband, Elliott Herzlich, commemorated the University’s 90th anniversary with a special ceremony and tree planting on Wednesday.
The noon event took place on the lawn in front of the Browning Building, and it included performances by the Governors’ Own Marching Band, the APSU Chamber Singers, the University Choir, the Austin Peay Dance Team and members of the APSU Cheerleading Squad.
