Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Movies in the Park to feature ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ August 9th
Clarksville, TN – Movies in the Park, the City of Clarksville’s free, outdoor movie series, continues Saturday, August 9th, at Liberty Park, 1190 Cumberland Drive, Clarksville.
‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,’ rated PG, and brought to you by Clarksville Family Magazine, will be shown at approximately 8:00pm (dependent on sunset).
106th annual Lone Oak Picnic brought out the Cunningham Community Saturday, as well as the Candidates
Cunningham, TN – The Central Civitan Club held the 106th Annual Lone Oak Picnic on Saturday, July 27th, 2014 at the Central Civitan Building located on Alonzo Place. The picnic started at 10:00am and continued until 3:00pm.
The Civitan Club prepared 4 whole hogs, 30 shoulders and 300 chicken halves for the event. There was also ice cream, coke products and water available. It is estimated that just over 500 people turned out Saturday.
Manna Café hosting Color Me Cool this Saturday, August 2nd
Clarksville, TN – The Color Me Cool Art Show and Ice Cream Festival—a groovy summer shindig with a hippie-dippy twist—is just around the corner!
Sponsored by Clarksville Fencing and Forefront Solutions, this Manna Café event will take place at 635 Frosty Morn Drive on Saturday, August 2nd from noon until 8:00pm.
Registration is underway for the Riverfest Tour d’Art Exhibits and Competition
Clarksville, TN – This year’s competition has changed just a bit; instead of three different exhibits, Riverfest Tour d’Art will feature the following divisions exhibited at two locations: the Amateur, Professional, and Senior Division at Smith-Trahern Mansion and the High School Division at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park plays host to Cooling at the Cave
Clarksville, TN – Another successful Cooling at the Cave was held Saturday July 26th. As in the old days, everyone gathered around the cave’s entrance to listen to the music and to let the constant cool breeze blowing from the mouth of the cave cool them off. Before air conditioning, locals gathered at the cave to cool off and have fellowship with others.
The entertainment this year was again provided by the extremely popular Cumberland Wind Jazz Project. They played big band music from the 1930′s to 1960′s. Several events goers took to the dance floor and enjoyed themselves greatly.

Austin Peay State University Biology Faculty Awarded $300K NSF Grant To Improve APSU’s Natural History Collection
Clarksville, TN – Drs. Rebecca Johansen, Dwayne Estes and Chris Gienger, principle investigators of the Center of Excellence for Field Biology and Biology Department faculty at Austin Peay Sate University, have been awarded more than $300,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to improve the infrastructure, utility and visibility of the APSU Natural History Collection.
In addition to teaching and research activities, Johansen, Estes and Gienger, serve as curators of these collections.
Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for July 30th through August 2nd, 2014
Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.
Some of the upcoming events include: Evening Nature Hike, Port Royal History Walk, Lake Life, The Secret World of Bats and Walk with the Naturalist.
