Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will host the Canoe and Kayak Race on July 12th at Liberty Park.

The race will be held in heats beginning at 8:00am at the Montgomery County Conservation Club, located at 1182 Seven Mile Ferry Road, and finishing at Freedom Point in Liberty Park.

Clarksville Civil War RoundtableClarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, June 18th, 2014 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Medical Center. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will have two temporary pool closures this month due to maintenance issues.

Bel-Aire Pool, located at 124 Marie Drive, will be closed on June 16th and New Providence Pool, located at 166 Cunningham Lane will be closed on June 25th.

Austin Peay State University Botanical Garden showcases area’s rare and endangered plants

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A few years ago, three tall, flowering cherry trees grew on the western side of Austin Peay State University’s Sundquist Science Complex. They provided a nice, welcoming entry into the building, but in 2007, Tennessee suffered from a record-setting drought.

Temperatures reached 113 degrees Fahrenheit that summer, and by the fall, the 20-foot tall trees were dead.

Friends of Fort Defiance to hold March to the Past event this Saturday, June 14th

Friends of Fort DefianceClarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance will be holding their annual March to the Past fundraising event this Saturday, June 14th from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center.

Live demonstrations of quilting, firing, clothing, and medicine will be sure to give the community a clear depiction of the Civil War era.
