LEAP Charity 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
Clarksville, TN – LEAP cordially invites the community to join them for a Charity 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on March 15th, 2014 from 10:00am to 4:00pm at West Creek High School located at 1210 West Creek Coyote Trail.
This full day of exciting hardwood action is both recreational and competitive as team’s battle on the court for trophies, prizes, and bragging rights.
The real drive at the Charity Tournament is not the basketball itself, but rather to help LEAP serve the needs of children who are living in our community.
Clarksville Firefighter’s Association to give away smoke detectors
Clarksville, TN – No home should be without smoke detectors and that’s why local firefighters are making every effort to ensure that everybody has one.
The Clarksville Firefighter’s Association local #3180, will be hosting a smoke detector giveaway on Saturday, February 22nd at Governors Square Mall. The event is from 10:00am-2:00pm.
Firefighters encourage anyone who is without smoke detectors, or knows a family or household that is without, to come to this event and get one while they last.

Historian Paula Hinton to talk about Tennessee anti-lynching movement on February 24th at APSU
Clarksville, TN – In the early 20th century, Tennessee ranked sixth in the nation in lynchings, with mobs murdering some 214 people during a 40-year span.
That number would have been higher, Historian Paula K. Hinton argues, had a small group of local, progressive women not stood up to angry mobs and complacent sheriffs.
Miller-Motte Technical College to hold Third Annual Prom-O-Rama February 17th

Clarksville, TN – Third annual Prom-O-Rama is coming to Clarksville with a rainbow of color flowing through Miller-Motte Technical College’s (MMTC) campus. Hundreds of prom dresses will be collected at MMTC starting February 17th.
In an effort to keep costs down for Montgomery County high school girls attending their proms, MMTC is collecting prom dresses from ladies in the community that wish to sell dresses they will no longer wear, but would like to sell.
APSU hosting Tennessee History Day competition on February 24th
Clarksville, TN – On February 24th, 255 Middle and High School students from seven surrounding counties, along with their teachers, parents and supporters, will converge on the Austin Peay State University campus for the annual Tennessee History Day event.
The University was selected two years ago as the host site for the newly formed North Middle Tennessee district of the national competition. [Read more]
APSU hosts 8th Annual Spring Dance Concert
Clarksville, TN – Last fall, Marcus Hayes, Austin Peay State University associate professor of dance, traveled to Colombia to study that country’s folk dances. He spent a week in the South American nation, traveling to museums and dance centers, and he was struck to discover that many of the dances had their origins in Africa.
“It went even further than I thought,” he said. “Because of the colonization of South America and the introduction of slavery, West African dance is infused in Latin American dances.”
