Brown Ph.D., Chief Economist Raymond James Investment ServicesIn his monetary policy testimony to Congress, Fed Chairman Bernanke said that “a highly accommodative monetary policy will remain appropriate for the foreseeable future.” He indicated that the Fed is using asset purchases “primarily to increase the near-term momentum of the economy, with the specific goal of achieving a substantial improvement in the outlook for the labor market.”

The Fed will rely on its forward guidance that short-term interest rates will continue to remain exceptionally low “to help maintain a high degree of monetary accommodation for an extended period after asset purchases end, even as the economic recovery strengthens and unemployment declines toward more normal levels.” [Read more]

Austin Peay State University Business Scholarship endowed by Clarksville resident to honor his late wife

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In the 1940s, Richard Powers enrolled in an economics class at Austin Peay State University. So did Mary Marks, and the two later were married for the next 58 years.

“We were both taking summer courses at that time,” Powers said.

His wife died in March 2008. To honor her memory, Powers established the Mary Marks Powers Scholarship for Business with a $50,000 endowment. [Read more]

Daymar Institute Back-to-School Bash a Success

Daymar InstituteClarksville, TN – Daymar Institute is a proud member of the Clarksville community. They enjoy giving and contributing in any way they can. This is the 5th year they contributed with a back-to-school bash.

Daymar purchased $2600.00 in school supplies. They stuffed 500 backpacks with several spiral notebooks, lined paper, pocket folders, and pencils. Elementary bags also had crayons, middle school bags contained color pencils, and high school bags got ink pens.

Austin Peay State University Summer Commencement to graduate 380 Students August 9th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will award degrees to approximately 380 students during its 84th Summer Commencement on Friday, August 9th in the Dunn Center.

Commencement will begin at 2:00pm. Doors will open at 1:00pm for guests.

In addition, Breanna Price, who is enrolled as a cadet in the University’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), will be commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army at the conclusion of the ceremony.
