Hilltop SupermarketClarksville, TN – On May 10th and 11th 2013, Hilltop Super Market will hold their 4th annual BBQ Cook Off. There will be cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishing teams per category as well as trophy prizes. There will also be a Grand Champion.

Team sign ups are going on now. The Categories are ribs, chicken, pork and brisket.

APSU Alumni Ken and Amy Landrum presented with 2013 Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Tennessee Board of Regents recognized the generosity of two longtime Austin Peay State University supporters on April 23rd by presenting Ken and Amy Landrum with the 2013 Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy.

The Landrums, both 1964 graduates, moved to Florida after Amy retired from a 30-year teaching career and Ken retired from a 32-year career with the National Life and Accident Insurance Co., but their philanthropic personalities have kept them close in spirit to APSU.

Robert Penn Warren Circle attracts nationally-known scholars

Clarksville, TN – Robert Penn Warren is the only writer to date with three Pulitzer Prizes, two in poetry and one in fiction. In 1980, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter, and in 1986, Warren was named the first Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry by the Library of Congress.

His senior year was spent at Clarksville High School prior to his attending Vanderbilt University. Although he had been appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, he was unable to enter school there because during the summer, his brother had tossed either a stone or piece of coal that landed in Robert Penn’s eye; this eventually resulted in blindness and the removal of his left eye. While at Vanderbilt, Warren became a member of a writers’ group known as The Fugitives and the rest is history. [Read more]

Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – Montgomery County Animal Control and Adoption Services setup their new Mobile Adoption Trailer at this years Rivers and Spires Festival Friday and Saturday, April 19th and 20th. It was sitting near the Kid’s Zone at the corner of Hiter Street and Commerce Street.

“It has been very well received,” stated Montgomery County Animal Control director Tim Clifton. “I think this is probably one of the greatest things we’ve done at animal control.”

Hunt to Speak About his Book “Restless Fires: John Muir’s Thousand Mile Walk to the Gulf”

The book is a detailed rendering of naturalist John Muir’s thousand-mile walk from Indiana to the Gulf of Mexico.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation reports restrooms at the King’s Run Bark Park temporarily closed

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The restrooms at the King’s Run Bark Park at Liberty Park will be temporarily closed due to mechanical repair. The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department hopes to reopen the restrooms by Monday, April 29th.
