APSU awarded state grant to promote health, fitness
Clarksville, TN – Thanks to a state grant awarded to Austin Peay State University, designated walking trails on campus and nutrition education sessions are in the plans to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
The Tennessee Department of Health recently awarded the Eat Well, Play More Grant, which provides $20,000 in funding, to APSU to develop a program that will help those in the area have immediate access to an environment that encourages fitness and health. [Read more]

2nd Annual SPAY-ghetti Dinner to be held by Clarksville Montgomery County Humane Society
Clarksville, TN – On Friday, October 7th the Clarksville Montgomery County Humane Society is holding their Spay-ghetti Dinner at First Presbyterian Church. The dinner starts at 5:00pm with the last seating at 7:00pm.
Tickets are only $10.00 for Adults and $5.00 for Kids 10 and under. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread, drink and dessert provided by George the Cake Guy. Drive-Thru Available pick up is available.
Open Enrollment in Clarksville Montgomery County School System going on now through February 25th
Montgomery County, TN – Specific grade levels in 14 elementary schools and all grades at Kenwood Middle are available for open enrollment for the Clarksville Montgomery County School 2013-14 school year.
The School System has developed a limited open enrollment policy for students who wish to attend a school or program outside the area for which they are zoned. [Read more]
Acting Workshop to be held January 26th at Austin Peay State University by Two noted Character Actors
Clarksville, TN – Sean Whalen might not have a household name, but chances are you’ll recognize his face. Since 1990, the popular character actor has appeared in more than 90 films and television shows, ranging from “Men in Black” and “That Thing You Do” to “Scrubs” and “Cold Case.”
The same can be said for actor Christopher Darga. You probably know him best as a viking from the Capital One Visa commercials, but he’s also appeared in the TV series “Dexter” and the 2003 Jim Carey movie “Bruce Almighty.”

Austin Peay State University Extended Education to offer allied health care training courses
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Center for Extended and Distance Education, in partnership with Boston Reed College, will offer two allied health care training programs.
The Clinical Medical Assistant Training course meets from 6:00pm-9:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 12th-June 13th. Course fee is $2,895. The class is a 16-week course that combines 134 hours of classroom instruction, including 42 hours of online training, with a 160-hour externship to provide fast-paced training designed to prepare students for a career as a clinical medical assistant. Market Commentary by Scott J. Brown, Ph.D., Chief Economist
The economic data were mixed, but generally consistent with moderate growth in the near term. Retail sales and industrial production were largely in line with expectations. Jobless claims sank and housing starts jumped, boosting the major stock market indices, although seasonal adjustment likely played a part. The Fed’s two major regional surveys disappointed, reflecting contractions in new orders and employment and some pickup in input price pressures.
Earnings reports were mixed, but investors seemed more concerned with the path ahead. [Read more]
