Don’t sacrifice your Liver and Kidneys with weight loss drugs

Clarksville TN – A University of Rhode Island study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), found the weight loss drug Orlistat, which goes by the prescription brand name Xenical and the over-the-counter name Alli, can cause “severe toxicity” to major internal organs.
Because the drug has been approved since 1999, we have to wonder how many people lost their lives during that time and were treated for liver and kidney disease because of this medication? [Read more]

Painter Gail Meyer and Photographer Tony Centonze to Exhibit at Planters Bank
Clarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery space will feature works from local artist Gail Meyer, along with photographs from Tony Centonze. The exhibits will be on display Thursday, February 7th-Wednesday, March 6th at 1971 Madison Street during regular bank hours.
Meyer began her art studies in 1972 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. With a husband in the U.S. Air Force, Meyer’s ability to study art was tabled by military moves, family life and motherhood.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announces Design Review Task Force Members
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will host the first organizational meeting of the newly appointed Design Review Task Force on February 5th, 2013 at 3:00pm.
The public meeting will take place in the City Hall Conference Room on the fourth floor of City Hall. The Task Force’s goal is to review Clarksville’s design review committee structure and present recommendations to simplify and streamline the design approval process. [Read more]

The House voted to delay the need for a debt ceiling increase by three months, to May 19. Congress has not had a real budget since 2009, funding the government through a series of stopgap measures (Continuing Resolutions). This week, Congress set a goal to have a real budget by April 15th, or lawmakers won’t get paid. Actually, they’ll still get paid eventually.
Oh, and the House and Senate only have to come up with a budget that can be approved by one chamber. They don’t have to have a set of budget bills that can be approved by both chambers (that is, something that could be sent to the president and signed into law). Spending cuts are still slated to kick in on March 1st, with about half of that in defense. [Read more]
APSU designated as a Certified Wildlife Habitat

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University campus isn’t simply a home for some 11,000 students. Squirrels, rabbits, birds and a few feral cats have also taken up residence in the bushes and trees surrounding the red brick, Georgian-style buildings.
They come here because of the abundance of food, water and shelter, but they stay because the campus offers these creatures a safe place to raise their young.

Welch named coordinator of APSU’s Dickson campus

Clarksville, TN – Individuals interested in finishing their college degrees by enrolling at Austin Peay State University’s campus in Dickson County will now have a friendly face to help guide them through the process – new extended campus coordinator Audrey Welch.
Welch is now working at the Dickson Renaissance Center campus (which houses both APSU and Nashville State Community College programs) helping students interested in completing a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.). [Read more]
Miller-Motte Technical brings back Prom-O-Rama
Clarksville, TN – Prom-O-Rama is coming to Clarksville again and a rainbow of color will be flowing through Miller-Motte Technical College’s (MMTC) campus soon. Hundreds of prom dresses will be collected at MMTC starting February 18th.
In an effort to keep costs down for Montgomery County high school girls attending their proms, MMTC is collecting prom dresses from ladies in the community that wish to sell dresses they will no longer wear, but would like to sell.
