Austin Peay State University to host social event “Fall Fling” September 28th
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will welcome the autumn season with the popular social event, Fall Fling.
Fall Fling, scheduled for Friday, September 28th at the Clarksville Country Club, is a casual alternative to the formal and popular Candlelight Ball held annually in March.
“Fall Fling is not a fundraiser but a ‘friend’ raiser with fun as our major objective,” said Nikki Loos Peterson, director of the APSU Office of Alumni Relations. “We think it will be a really great way to close out summer and welcome the fall.” [Read more]
APSU Provost Lecture Series kicks off with session about Religion in Disaster Relief
Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University social work faculty member will explore the role of spirituality in natural disaster relief as the first session of the University’s Provost Lecture Series for 2012-13.
Dr. Tatsushi Hirono, assistant professor of social work, will present “The Role of Religious Leaders in Natural Disaster Relief: A Comparative Analysis Between the Clergy of American Christian Churches and Japanese Buddhist Temples” at 3:00pm, Thursday, September 20th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303.

Rossview High School Wrestling hosting Drive 4UR School fundraiser October 3rd
Clarksville, TN – Rossview High School Wrestling and Jenkins and Wynne Ford are hosting the Drive 4UR School fundraiser on October 3rd on the Rossview campus from 9:30am to 1:15pm. Ford will make a donation to the Rossview athletic programs.
Volunteers are needed to test drive select vehicles and this will earn proceeds for the Rossview sports programs. Anyone interested in participating can contact Rob Gordon at gordonre@apsu.edu.
Wilma Rudolph Event Center seeks craft vendors for new event
Clarksville, TN – The Wilma Rudolph Event Center, located at Liberty Park, is currently seeking craft vendors to participate in a new event hosted by the facility.
The two-day event is scheduled to take place November 17th, 2012 from 10:00am to 6:00pm and November 18th, 2012 from noon to 5:00pm. [Read more]
APSU Leadership Honor Society recognized as one of the nation’s top chapters
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society was recently named the recipient of the ODK Superior Circle Award at the society’s national convention in Charlotte, NC.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the APSU circle has been recognized for continued leadership within the society.

Downtown Clarksville Came to Life for the Seventh Annual Frolic on Franklin Street Arts Extravaganza
Clarksville, TN – The community street fair featured 30 booths allowing local artists to showcase their talents and to sell their arts and hand-crafted items to the public. The booths featured a wide selection of photography, paintings and drawings, pottery, jewelry, glass items, and more.
The event also included a variety of entertainment and kids’ activities including the Kenwood High School Hi-Steppers, the Cumberland Winds Woodwind Quintet, the Northeast High School Exit One Show Choir, Red River Breeze, and the Loose Hinges. The evening closed out with the “9 to 5 The Musical” staring Bailey Hanks.
The Mill to hold Grand Opening Saturday, September 22nd
Clarksville, TN – The Mill, located at 1101 Dover Road, will have their Grand Opening Saturday, September 22nd, 2012 from 10:00am to 6:00pm. There will be live music, a chainsaw carving show, performance by Northwest High School’s Pom Squad, delicious food, games, and door prizes.
Lylewood Inn will also be there selling some great food. Menu will include chicken and dumplings, pork tenderloin sliders, and beans and cornbread.

Governors Own Marching Band Continues to Grow
Clarksville, TN – In 2006, the sports writer Ivan Maisel published an article on ESPN.com listing the 20 reasons college football is better than the NFL. For reason no. 12, he listed “College halftimes.”
“College halftime means tradition,” he wrote. “Marching bands dot the I in Ohio or at least rouse the emotions by playing the fight song…it’s an inestimable part of the college football experience. NFL halftime means, um, time to make a sandwich.”

Market Commentary by Scott J. Brown, Ph.D., Chief Economist
Citing concerns about the pace of improvement in the labor market, the Federal Open Market Committee extended its forward guidance and started a third round of large-scale asset purchases (what most people call “QE3”). The FOMC said economic conditions are expected to warrant exceptionally low levels of the federal funds rate target through mid-2015 (vs. “late 2014” in the previous policy statement) and added that “a highly accommodative stance of monetary policy will remain appropriate for a considerable time after the economic recovery strengthens.”
The Fed’s latest bond-buying program will be in mortgage-backed securities and, unlike the first two asset purchase programs, is open-ended ($40 billion per month). In his press briefing after the FOMC meeting, Chairman Bernanke emphasized that the Fed wanted to see “substantial” improvement in the labor market, but declined to assign specific numbers to that. Bernanke also said that the Fed cannot do everything (including offsetting the negative impact of the fiscal cliff, should that occur), but is obliged to do what it can to support growth. [Read more]
