2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is happy to announce the winners of the Riverfest volunteer prize.

The Austin Peay State University chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity will be awarded the $500.00 cash prize for providing the largest group of volunteers for the 2012 Riverfest celebration held September 7th and 8th at McGregor Park. [Read more]

Clarksville GreenwayClarksville, TN – Clarksvillians are encouraged to join in the beautification of one of the City’s favorite walking trails. The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a cleanup at The Clarksville Greenway, located at the Pollard Road Trailhead, on Saturday, October 13th from 8:00am to 10:00am.

Our trails need constant maintenance, but to make it more fun, we schedule volunteer maintenance days throughout the year to keep them in shape.

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – Several times during the conversation, the name Leopold was whispered. The three Austin Peay State University professors were referring to a fictional character played masterfully by Bugs Bunny in the 1949 Warner Brothers Looney Tunes cartoon “Long-Haired Hare.”

Barry Jones, APSU associate art professor, spoke in a quiet, reverential tone when mentioning the name. Kell Black, art professor, said it a bit more forcefully. But it was Dr. Gregory Wolynec, professor of music and conductor of the Gateway Chamber Orchestra, who almost shouted the name with gusto. He has a special fondness for the character since Bugs Bunny is in fact impersonating the famed British conductor Leopold Stokowski. [Read more]

High School Bands were Rockin’ at the 2nd Annual Indian Nation Marching Invitational

Montgomery Central High SchoolCunningham, TN – On Saturday, September 15th, 14 area High School Marching Bands made their way to Montgomery Central High School Stadium for the 2nd Annual Indian Nation Marching Invitational. The weather was perfect as the bands strutted their stuff in front of the filled stadium.

“There was a lot of work done by our Band Boosters to prepare a quality competition.” stated Montgomery Central High School Principal Christy R. Houston. “We hope everyone enjoyed the experience.”

G.I. Jobs Magazine names Austin Peay State University Military Friendly School for 2013

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has been named by G.I. Jobs magazine as Military Friendly School for 2013.

The honor ranks APSU in the top 15 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide, according to a letter from the magazine’s publisher, Rich McCormack. The magazine surveyed more than 12,000 schools, according to the announcement. [Read more]

Raven Brown, Clarksville High School, received the Presidential Scholarship. Brown plans to major in nursing at APSU.

They pick majors in the sciences and mathematics without a clear plan of how to achieve their goals and, after a few years of floundering, many unfortunately decided to end their college careers prematurely.

For the last three years, the Austin Peay State University College of Science and Mathematics has sought to offer a bit of assistance to these individuals by hosting a Sciences, Health and Mathematics Career night each fall. [Read more]

The Indoor Aquatic Center opens its doors for the Indoor Season on Monday, October 1st.

Virtuoso pianist Gloria Chien to open Clarksville Community Concert Association’s 2012-13 season on September 21st

Clarksville, TNThe Clarksville Community Concert AssociationThe Clarksville Community Concert Association will kick off its 2012-13 season at 7:30pm on September 21st with a performance by piano virtuoso Gloria Chien.

Richard Dyer of the Boston Glove praised Chien for “a wondrously rich palette of colors, which she mixes everything with dashing bravado and with an uncanny precision of calibration.”
