Clarksville, TN – When W. Riley Braem (’10) first arrived at Arizona State University to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in theater, the school’s faculty challenged him to look deeper within himself to discover what he really wanted to do with his degree.

Riverfest partners with F.U.E.L to help collect food for children in Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – Riverfest is excited to partner with F.U.E.L., a food subsidization program, by serving as a collection site for food donations, September 7th and 8th, 2012 at McGregor Park.
F.U.E.L (Full of Emmaus Love), is designed to feed children whose only food source may be the food they are receiving at school by collecting donations, bagging them and distributing to schools to place in children’s back packs each Friday. Gateway Chamber Orchestra Begins New Season with New Identity
Clarksville, TN – The Gateway Chamber Orchestra, which kicks off its third subscription season at 7:30pm on August 30th, can’t be accused of lacking ambition.
“Our goal is to be one of the world’s great chamber orchestras,” Dr. Gregory Wolynec, the ensemble’s conductor, said recently. “There is a great symphony orchestra, the Nashville Symphony, 45 minutes down the road. We offer something different. The energy and spirit of this group has been just magical.”

Palmyra Community to hold Taste of Shiloh Event to Celebrate the Release of New Cookbook
Palmyra, TN – From 4:30pm till 7:30pm on Saturday, August 25th, 2012, the Taste of Shiloh Cookbook committee will celebrate their upcoming cookbook at the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with music, raffles, and most importantly, samples of the featured recipes. Raffle prizes will include aprons, kitchen baskets, gift cards, and desserts prepared by the women featured in the cookbook. Cookbooks will be pre-sold at the event.
Two years ago, a cookbook committee was formed to record the recipes of current and past members of the Palmyra community, to ensure that the recipes they had loved would not pass away with the women who made them.

The economic data were mixed, but generally stronger than expected. Retail sales popped 0.8% (overall and ex-autos) in July, following weak reports in April, May, and June. The CPI was flat overall in July and up only mildly ex-food & energy. However, higher prices of food and energy are expected to show through more in the report for August. Industrial production advanced, fueled by strength in autos (seasonal adjustment issues?) and hot weather (higher output of utilities).
Residential construction figures were mixed. Housing starts slipped, but single-family building permits (which are reported more accurately) rose further. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – The dogs at Shannon’s Doggy Daycare have wagged their way to a new location. The business, owned by Shannon Dowdy-Wall, has been in operation for three years.

Beachaven Winery’s Jazz on the Lawn tonight with The Clarksville Jazz Quintet

Planters Bank plans the purchase of Five Old National Bank Branches
Hopkinsville, KY – Planters Bank announces its intention to acquire five Old National Bank branches in Princeton, Providence, Dawson Springs, Sebree, and Sturgis, Kentucky.
In connection with the acquisition, Planters is assuming all of the deposit liabilities of the branches, but is not acquiring any loans. The total deposits being assumed were approximately $92 million as of August 1st, 2012.
Plans call for the transaction to be complete within 90-120 days, subject to regulatory approval and the satisfaction of other customary closing conditions. [Read more]
Fort Defiance Interpretive Center to host a living history weekend
Clarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host a living history weekend in remembrance of the Confederate recapture of Clarksville as well as the Battle of Riggins Hill, Saturday, September 15th from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, September 16th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
