Clarksville Sports Festival Legends AwardsClarksville, TN – The nomination deadline is quickly approaching for the second annual Clarksville Sports Festival Legends Awards. The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department along with Legends Bank have partnered in an effort to honor both current and past coaches who are or have made a unique difference and solid contribution to sports and athletics in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area.

Winning coaches will be honored at the 2011 Legends Award Banquet which will be held March 15th, 2012, beginning at 6:30pm at Montgomery County Civic Hall. Coaches that are currently coaching or coached in 2011 are invited to attend this free event. [Read more]

Hands on Clarksville seeks Veteran Homeowners for Free Weatherization Program

Hands On ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – It’s cold outside, but Hands on Clarksville is ready for winter! The local volunteer program recently received a Community Impact grant from the Home Depot Foundation; and the funds will be used to help five local veteran families weatherize their homes.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, drafts in homes are not only annoying but can also be responsible for soaring energy costs in both winter and summer. And, reducing drafts in our homes can lower energy costs from 5 to 30 percent. [Read more]

Apartment Unit Available under LEAP Emergency/Transitional Housing Program

Clarksville, TN – As of February 1st, 2012, the LEAP Organization will be accepting applications for one available unit under the Emergency/Transitional Housing Program. The application deadline is February 15th.

A determination should be made as to who the housing recipient will be by March 1st. Applications can be downloaded from www.leaporg.net or picked up from the Emmanuel Family Life Center located at 303 Fairview Lane. [Read more]

Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center to hold Fundraising Event for Brady Conatser Saturday morning

Brady ConatserClarksville, TN – On Saturday, January 28th there will be a fundraising event for Brady Conatser at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center. Dr. Mac Edington has donated the Pinnacle from 9:00am to 11:00am for free bowling that includes shoe rental. A donation of $7.00 will be collected at the door.

Conatser, a 2011 graduate of Montgomery Central High School, was paralyzed on December 27th when he became light headed and fell hitting his head on a truck bumper and then again on a bolt that was part of the car lift. He damaged his c-4 vertebrae, breaking his neck. [Read more]

College Goal Sunday coming to Austin Peay State University

If you’re a Tennessee resident who could qualify for undergraduate admission to a college, university, career college, or technical school, and you need financial aid and help filling out the FAFSA, then College Goal Sunday is for you. Austin Peay State University Hall of Fame to reach 100 members as Bailey, Haynes, Holt to be inducted Saturday

APSU Sports: APSU Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Jay Bailey, an All-American running back who owns the school single-season rushing record; Ashley Haynes, the versatile forward who scored 1,000 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds in her illustrious career, and Cheryl Holt, who led Austin Peay volleyball to 19 straight Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearances, including the 1991 tourney title, will be inducted into the University’s Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday.

The 9:00am, induction ceremonies in the Dunn Center’s front lobby will see the APSU Athletic Hall of Fame grow to 107. The newest inductees and their families also will be honored during halftime ceremonies of APSU men’s basketball home contest against UT Martin.
