The Clarksville AcademyClarksville, TN – Clarksville Academy, a Pre-K through 12th grade private college preparatory school, is pleased to announce the signing of Blake Rowlett to Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL. Blake has played baseball at CA for the past 4 years.

Head of Schools Kay Drew, “I am always proud to see our students set goals for themselves and work to achieve them. We couldn’t be more proud of Blake and his success.” Blake has had many accomplishments on the field, including being a starting short stop on the varsity team for four years.

Renowned soprano Burrows to perform at APSU on October 30th

Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council, in cooperation with the Clarksville Community Concert Association and Austin Peay State University Department of Music, will present renowned soprano and Clarksville native Melissa Shippen Burrows in concert at 7:00pm, October 30th, in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Concert Hall.

Described by The New York Times as “a dramatic soprano with an attractive, powerful sound,” as “angelic” by The Washington Post and, according to Theater Scene, “appealing and lyrical,” Burrows has made debuts in her young career throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

“Laying Low” to benefit Custom’s House Museum

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – If you’ve been “Flying High” over the years, then it’s time for “Laying Low” to support the Custom’s House Museum and Cultural Center. The Museum’s first ever “Laying Low” fundraiser is coming November 5th at 3:30pm, at the home of Nancy and Garnett Ladd, 2100 Madison Street.

APSU Senior Art Exhibits Planned this Fall

The APSU Department of Art LogoClarksville, TN – This fall, 15 young artists at Austin Peay State University will present highly original new works during a series of free exhibits in the campus’ Trahern Building.

The students, working in a variety of media from painting to photography to ceramics, are enrolled in Austin Peay’s Senior Thesis Exhibition class, taught by assistant professor of art Paul Collins. The class requires that students present their work in a public setting in order to earn their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. [Read more]

“Wine Around the World” to benefit local Red Cross

American Red CrossClarksville, TN – “Wine around the World” is coming to Clarksville, Saturday November 12th at the Water Street Events Center. This signature event will be one of a kind for Clarksville, as sponsors will be able to sample wine’s from all over the world, matched with foods paired perfectly with your selections.

“Wine around the World” will benefit the local chapter of the American Red Cross, continuing it’s mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Tickets are available at the Red Cross office on Madison Street, and are $55.00 in advance. Event chairperson Beth Tanner says the event will feature some of the finest wines from Spain, Germany, California, New Zealand, Portugal and France. [Read more]

The economic data were mixed, but consistent with lackluster-to-moderate growth in the near term (no recession). Headline inflation figures for August were boosted by higher food and energy costs, but the core CPI rose modestly. The 2012 adjustment to Social Security payments will be 3.6%, following no change in the last two years. Housing starts jumped 15% in September, reflecting the usual volatility in the multi-family sector – single-family building permits, the key figure in the report, edged down 0.2%.

The financial markets looked past the economic data, focusing instead on earnings reports and Europe. European leaders said that a plan to address the region’s problems would not be finished by Sunday, but may be completed following a second summit, by Wednesday at the earliest. The global markets have reacted to reports of bickering as the plan is cobbled together, but remains encouraged by the strong rhetoric by Germany’s Merkel and France’s Sarkozy. [Read more]

Freshwater and marine ecosystems are easily accessible areas that allow for invasive hitchhikers to reach a new geographical area either deliberately or unintentionally. This will be the focus of the next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University. [Read more]
