Author, social justice advocate to speak at APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Acclaimed author and social justice advocate Tim Wise will be at Austin Peay State University next week to discuss race relations and privilege.

Wise will present “Race Relations and White Privilege: Does It Still Affect You?” from 7:00pm-9:00pm, Thursday, February 10th in Clement Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

His talk is sponsored by the African American Cultural Center and Student Life and Leadership in conjunction with Black History Month.

Clarksville Networking Group to hold Special Evening Event

Clarksville Networking GroupClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Networking Group will stray from their usual morning meeting to host a special evening networking event with special guest Adam Small of Strategic Business Network. The first-ever event is scheduled for March 8th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the ballroom of the Riverview Inn.

Fort Campbell Welcome Home – 3rd BCT Feb. 6th 2:50pm

Fort Campbell, KY – On February 6th, 2011 at 2:50pm, Fort Campbell KY held a welcome home ceremony for the 101st Airborne Division. Soldiers of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Rakkasan) were greeter by cheers from family members and friends. A total of 189 Soldiers returned from duty in Afghanistan on this flight.

APSU Assistant VP of academic affairs chosen as TBR Maxine Smith Fellow

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – After being nominated by the top two administrators at Austin Peay State University, the assistant vice president of academic affairs at APSU has been selected by the Tennessee Board of Regents as a Maxine Smith Fellow.

Dr. Brian Johnson will split his work duties between APSU and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) in Nashville, where he will work under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Rhoda, executive director of the THEC. Johnson, whose project will focus on the Complete College Tennessee Act, was nominated by APSU President Tim Hall and Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic affairs. [Read more]

First Annual Sports Festival Coming to Clarksville

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Austin Peay State University Recreation and Legends Bank to present Clarksville Sports Festival.

This two-day sports and athletic event will be held Friday, March 25th, from 1:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday, March 26th, from 9:00am to 4:00pm at various locations on Austin Peay’s campus. The festival will be free and open to the public. [Read more]

Fort Campbell, KY – On February 5th, 2011 at 10:45am, Fort Campbell KY held a welcome home ceremony for the 101st Airborne Division. Soldiers of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Rakkasan) were greeted by cheers from family members and friends. A total of 157 Soldiers returned from duty in Afghanistan on this flight.

Fort Campbell, KY – On February 5th, 2011 at 5:10am, Fort Campbell KY held a welcome home ceremony for the 101st Airborne Division. 112 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (Wings of Destiny) soldiers and 113 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Rakkasan) soldiers were greeted by cheers from family members and friends. 225 Soldiers total returned from duty in Afghanistan on this flight.

Provost Lecture Series at APSU to explore stage fright

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University will explore performance anxiety/stage fright as a nemesis in the lives of some professors and students.

Dr. Thomas King, professor of music, will present “Weak Knees? Sweaty Palms? The Anxiety Doctor Can Help” from 3:00pm-4:30pm, February 10th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The event is free and open to the public.

In 1988, King joined the APSU Department of Music as assistant professor in voice and opera. He has degrees from the University of Kansas, Indiana University and University of Mississippi, as well as a performer’s certificate in opera from the Mozarteum Music Conservatory in Salzburg, Austria.
