Winter can be a drab time of the year, the leafs have left the trees, the grass has died, no crops in the fields. It is as nature has left and gone south.
Some times we fell all alone. That’s kind of the way I fell today. I’m setting on the couch, Hersey, our dog, is sleeping here with me. The TV is off. All is quit I fell like the world has stop and let me off.

The economic data were mixed, but generally consistent with a continued recovery. Housing starts fell in December, but building permits (which are reported more accurately than starts) rose sharply (partly reflecting the usual volatility in the multi-family sector). Existing home sales were stronger than anticipated in December, but these represent closings (and hence, lag somewhat). Higher mortgage rates may have dampened housing activity into the new year. The Index of Leading Economic Indicators posted another strong gain in December, boosted by the rise in building permits.
The stock market seemed to struggle with good news (earnings reports and the economic data releases). Bond yields rose, pressured by the economic data and by a disappointing 10-year TIPS auction. Crude oil prices backed down somewhat following reports of higher inventories. [Read more]

Fisk Jubilee Singers to perform at APSU
Clarksville, TN – As part of the celebration for the 20-year anniversary of the Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center (AACC) at Austin Peay State University, a performance by the Fisk Jubilee Singers will be at 7:30pm, Saturday, January 29th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.
The concert is a collaboration between the AACC and the Clarksville Community Concert Association.

Dancing with the Stars Tickets go on Sale
Clarksville, TN – Tickets go on sale this week for the third annual Dancing with the Stars.
Altrusa International of Clarksville, producters of the show, have chosen Melissa Schaffner to step in for Mayor Kim McMillan, who had to drop out due to a knee injury.
Schaffner is the Marketing Director for Fort Campbell MWR. Schaffner joins Susan Ford, Britany Campbell, Conrad Edington, Ronnie Hunter and Jim Knoll, who have been in rehearsals for several weeks now.

Clarksville Department of Electricity Superintendent Announces New Hire
Clarksville, TN – CDE Superintendent Johnny Piper has hired Christie Hill as his Executive Assistant and Communications Director.
Hill has worked as the Communications Director and spokesperson for the City of Clarksville during Piper’s term as Mayor, and has an extensive media background from working more than 11 years in the Nashville Television industry. She will be an experienced and knowledgeable addition to the staff serving the customers of Clarksville Department of Electricity.
“I’m proud to have Christie join our team,” Piper said today. “Her experience in the media and Communications brings a skill set that’s essential to our operation. Having worked closely with Christie during my time as Mayor, I am certain she will help our team as we move towards making CDE better for our customers.”
CPD’s Youth Coalition Essay Winners Rewarded
Clarksville, TN – CPD’s Youth Coalition essay contest winners were recognized by the Clarksville Police Department at an award ceremony held at Police Headquarters on January 19th. The idea for the essay contest was originated by Rita Quarles and Stefanni Keener, both volunteer mentors for CPD’s Youth Coalition.
The 18 contestants were all participants in the Police Department’s Youth Coalition program. They had to read and write an essay about the book, “Lord of the Flies”. The essays were initially read and judged by Rita Quarles and Steffani Keener and they selected their top three choices.

Clarksville Empty Bowls 2011
Coming together as a community to help feed hungry people is at the heart of what Empty Bowls is all about.
Clarksville, TN – Empty Bowls is Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011 and tickets are now on sale. Tickets are $15.00 each and include handpainted bowl, soup, bread and drink. Lunch will be from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Dinner will be from 4:30pm to 7:00pm.
The event will be held at Emmanuel Family Life Center located at 303 Fairview Lane, Clarksville, TN.

Demolition of Bridge over Red River in Clarksville Tennessee
Clarksville, TN – Tennessee Department of Transportation crews demolished part of the existing bridge over the Red River on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard (U.S. 79/State Route 13) in Clarksville Tennessee on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011.
Explosives were detonated at 10:14:05pm and brought down the concrete columns on the southbound bridge.
