APSU Foundation sponsoring raffle for chance to win $20,000 cash in February
Clarksville, TN – To help provide scholarships to more students at Austin Peay State University, the APSU Foundation is sponsoring a raffle drawing for a chance to win $20,000 cash.
The raffle drawing will be held during the men’s basketball game between APSU and Southeast Missouri on Saturday, February 26th, 2011, in the Dunn Center. It is not necessary to be present to win.
All proceeds from the raffle are designated for scholarships. Tickets are $10.00 each, and anyone—18 or older—can enter the raffle and increase the chances of winning by buying multiple tickets. [Read more]
Operation Joint Dawn
Joint Contracting Exercise
Fort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell is hosting 115 contingency contracting officers during Operation Joint Dawn January 17th – February 5th.
Exercise participants are preparing to deploy within the next 12 months to Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar. Participants include active Army and Air Force, Army National Guard, and Army Reservists from 50 locations, including Alaska, Japan and Hawaii.
The exercise was designed to train Soldiers on “warrior tasks” in addition to a variety of contracting-specific tasks.
Fort Campbell Welcome Home Ceremony – 3rd BCT (3-320) Jan. 30th
Fort Campbell, KY – On January 30th, 2011 at 7:45am, Fort Campbell KY held a welcome home ceremony for the 101st Airborne Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (3-320). 200 Soldiers returned from duty in Khowst Province, Afghanistan.
Local youth support Jump Rope For Heart
Clarksville, TN – The Children and Youth Ministry of Reconciliation Evangelistic Outreach Center (R.E.O.C.) is participating in Jump Rope For Heart, a national fundraising event sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
“It Takes Heart to be a Hero!” is the theme they are using for this event as they start off 2011 by getting their physical and spiritual well-being together. The children are in preparation for this event now by learning more about how to take care of their physical health. They are accepting donations and pledges now and are very excited about jumping. Different health care and support groups, such as CURVES, will be on site to give information about making healthy lifestyle choices. [Read more]
Indoor Aquatic Center Grand Opening
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department held the Grand Opening of the new Indoor Aquatic Center on January 29th, 2011 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan was there for the ribbon cutting. There were prizes given away, a Polar Bear Splash as well as tours to learn about the new programs available there. One lucky winner took home a FREE pool membership for the entire winter season.
Art Scholar Horowitz to give lecture at APSU on January 31st
Clarksville, TN – Gregg Horowitz is a scholar with many interests. His curriculum vitae lists his areas of specialization as “aesthetics and philosophy of art history, critical theory of culture and philosophy and psychoanalysis.”
The common thread is his passion for art in its many forms, and the former Vanderbilt professor is using his expertise in these fields to inspire budding young artists and designers at New York’s famed Pratt Institute. He was recently named chair of the Institute’s Social Science and Cultural Studies Department. [Read more]
More of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team returned from Afghanistan Late Saturday Afternoon.
Fort Campbell, KY – The return of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team from the Khowst Province of Afghanistan continued last night with the arrival of 167 “Red Knight Rakkasans” part of the the 3-320th Field Artillery unit.
Family and friends of the returning soldiers had gathered together to give their loved ones a proper welcome home.

Market Commentary by Scott J. Brown, Ph.D., Chief Economist
The economic data were mixed, but mostly positive. Real GDP rose at a 3.2% annual rate in Q410, a bit below the consensus forecast, but the details were relatively strong. Inventory growth slowed sharply, subtracting 3.7 percentage points from headline GDP. Exports continued to advance, but imports fell (note that imports have a negative sign in the GDP calculation), and combined, net exports added 3.4 percentage points to GDP growth.
Consumer spending rose at a strong 4.4% annual rate, partly reflecting a drop in the savings rate. Business fixed investment also rose 4.4%, slower than in recent quarters, but still positive. The sharp deceleration in inventory growth (assuming it holds up in revisions) suggests strong GDP growth in the near term (as inventory growth picks back up). Note that the 2% reduction in payroll taxes will boost disposable income and support consumer spending growth in early 2011. [Read more]
