Pedigo Hardware continues their long tradition of customer service in Clarksville Tennessee

November 19, 2010 | Print This Post

People go to Pedigo Hardware for a level of service they just can’t find anywhere else in Clarksville, a personal touch that you can only find when shopping at a locally owned business. Places where you are a customer, a friend, and not just another line in the accounting ledger.

Pedigo Harward has been a fixture in Clarksville since 1963 when it was founded in the shopping plaza where Wortham’s Food Town was located on Madison Street. Originally founded by William Pedigo, it is currently owned by Stacy Salyer. She first started working at the store in 1984. Three years later she purchased the business on April Fools Day in 1987. In January 2003 it moved to its current location just down from Kroger’s on Madison Street. [Read more]

APSU Presents William Shakespeare’s Masterwork “King Lear”

November 16, 2010 | Print This Post

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Late in William Shakespeare’s tragic masterpiece “King Lear,” the Earl of Gloucester cries out “As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods – they kill us for their sport.”

The line encapsulates the general state of despair and helplessness felt by the characters after two hours of betrayal, violence, warring and storms. The emotional intensity of “King Lear” has led it to be considered by many as the bard’s greatest drama. The esteemed Polish theater critic Jan Kott even described the work as “a high mountain that everyone admires, yet no one particularly wishes to climb.” [Read more]

Just What Goes on at a Civil War Ball?

By | November 16, 2010 | Print This Post

The Second Annual Friends of Fort Defiance Civil War Ball and Dinner was held at Smith-Trahern Mansion, on Saturday, November 13th.

Having never attended a civil war ball before, both my husband Bill and I had little idea of what to expect. Of course, we knew that everyone had to wear period dress and that dinner would precede dancing. Other than that, we were clueless.

We arrived just before the beginning hour of 5:30pm in a soggy rainstorm that was not conducive to wearing a full-length formal gown. My search for the gown had covered three cities and about 75 hours of web searching before I finally settled on a floor-length deep brown strapless gown with a pick-up skirt from Bridal Warehouse in Rivergate. I covered my aging shoulders with a gold sequined wrap centered with a sunray-pointed gold pin with a brown gem at its center. My shoes were strappy copper heels—and I forgot to wear my elbow-length gloves!
