Professional Horseshoe Pitching Tour Making 4th Stop In Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – For horseshoe pitching enthusiasts, the 2017 HP Pro Tour Open Horseshoe Tournament will once again make its way to Clarksville. Montgomery County’s Civitan Park, 650 Bellamy Lane, serves as home to the event, June 3rd-4th, 2017, marking the fourth year that the tour has included Clarksville.
The HP Pro Tour is a series of horseshoe pitching tournaments where competitors try to get as many ringers as possible and walk away with big cash prizes.
APSU names experienced arts administrator as new CECA director

Clarksville, TN – On a cool evening in early February, dozens of people hurried across the Austin Peay State University campus to hear a lecture in the Trahern Building by Hollywood visual effects artist Colie Wertz.
The event, co-sponsored by the APSU Department of Art and Design and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA), attracted attendees from across Clarksville, interested in hearing from a man who’d worked on films such as “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art and Design, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, will welcome computer graphics modeler Colie Wertz to campus at 7:00pm, on February 2nd, for a visiting artist lecture.
Wertz’s lecture, in Trahern 401, will kick off this semester’s portion of the department’s 2016-2017 Visiting Artist Speaker Series.

Austin Peay State University Students to launch high-altitude balloon during 2017 eclipse

Clarksville, TN – Almost like dominoes toppling over, only in reverse, a line of high-altitude balloons will gradually rise into the late summer sky, from Oregon to South Carolina, on August 21st, 2017.
That afternoon, the shadow of a total solar eclipse will traverse the entire country, and as it nears Clarksville, a team of Austin Peay State University students will release their own helium-filled inflatable.

Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has named Melody Nix as the new principal of Burt Elementary School beginning with the 2016-17 school year.
She will replace Diana Hara, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

APSU professor Dr. Tony Morris elected to SECAC Board of Directors

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Tony Morris, Associate Professor of Art History at Austin Peay State University, has been elected to a three-year term on the Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) Board of Directors.
Morris earned his Ph.D. in Art History from Case Western Reserve University in 2010. With an interest in the expression of queer masculinities and artwork that challenges conventional social values, his research focuses on gender and queer identity in 20th century American art.

Clarksville, TN – The Southeast Tourism Society has named Clarksville’s Rivers & Spires Festival one of the STS Top 20 Event in the Southeast for April 2016.
This year’s Rivers and Spires Festival is scheduled for April 14th-16th, 2016. The STS Top 20 Festival and Event Awards have highlighted programs around the Southeast since 1985.
