APSU coordinates campus response to last week’s violent storms

Clarksville, TN – Last week, after several devastating storms and tornadoes moved through the Middle Tennessee area, members of the Austin Peay State University (APSU) community began reaching out to the students, faculty and staff who live in those counties.

Clarksville, TN – Did you know that September 2013 marks the tenth annual National Preparedness Month, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
National Preparedness Month is designed to encourage people to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and communities. Whether it’s September or any other month of the year, disaster can strike at any time without warning.
August 9th is the Deadline for Tennesseans to Register with FEMA

Nashville, TN – Tennesseans who suffered losses due to severe spring weather have about six weeks remaining to apply for assistance. August 9th is the last day the Federal Emergency Management Agency will accept applications for individual assistance.
State and federal officials continue to encourage anyone with damage or other losses in the disaster-designated counties to register. “You may think you don’t need assistance, but you could later have disaster related losses,” said TEMA Director James H. Bassham “Registration with FEMA is free. It’s better to get your name in the system before the August 9th deadline. After that date, it will be too late.” [Read more]
APSU given StormReady sign by National Weather Service

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University was designated a StormReady University by the National Weather Service during a brief presentation held Tuesday, May 24th on the main campus.
Larry Vannozzi, meteorologist in charge with the NWS in Nashville, and Tom Johnstone, also with the NWS Nashville bureau, presented APSU Chief of Police Lantz Biles with a StormReady sign to be placed on the APSU main campus.
City postpones 2010 Flood commemoration

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville will reschedule a commemoration of the 2010 Flood planned for today at the Cumberland RiverCenter Pavilion amphitheater of McGregor Park because of high waters from recent severe weather. No new date has been set for the ceremony. [Read more]
