APSU students perform service work during winter break

Clarksville, TN – Two groups of Austin Peay State University (APSU) students and staff members over winter break traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Savannah, Georgia, for Alternative Break Trips. One group volunteered with Peace by Piece of New Orleans, an organization dedicated to positively impacting communities of color.
Local Girl Scout troop supports Austin Peay State University campus food pantry

APSU announces winner of 2013 Young Composers Award

Clarksville, TN – The winner of the 27th Annual Young Composer’s Competition at Austin Peay State University was recently announced by the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The winning composer is Christopher Chandler, of Rochester, NY, who won for his “deep in liquid indigo” for chamber ensemble.
Chandler was born in Savannah, GA, in 1986 and currently lives in Rochester, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in composition at the Eastman School of Music. [Read more]
Signs Now Clarksville receives Top Award

Clarksville, TN – Richard, Suzanne, Kenny and Kelly Pryor, owners of Signs Now Clarksville, recently received one of the top awards at the 2013 Signs Now and Signs By Tomorrow Convention in Savannah, GA.

Noted environmental landscape artist to speak at APSU Biology Honors Seminar February 25th

Clarksville, TN – In the early 1770s, the American naturalist William Bartram headed south to explore the pristine, untouched region that would soon become known as the Southeastern United States of America.
Instead of forests and farms, he discovered wide, grassy savannahs spreading across Georgia and Alabama. He jotted down details of this terrain and drew pictures of the land in his notebook. [Read more]
Several APSU faculty, staff announce recent activities

Clarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Edward Wayne Chester, professor emeritus in the department of biology and the Center of Excellence for Field Biology, was presented the Conservation Award for 2011 at the annual meeting of the Tennessee Native Plant Society in September.
The award is given yearly to a person who has long advocated and supported the conservation and stewardship of Tennessee’s natural resources, especially native plants. Chester taught various biology and botany classes, conducted research and published numerous papers on the plant life of Tennessee and the southeast for more than 40 years. He currently teaches adjunct classes in biology and continues his research and writing. [Read more]
