APSU, CMCSS partner on innovative three-year residency and degree program

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) says that in 1975, 22 percent of all college students dreamed of becoming teachers. Forty-four years later, that number has plummeted to about 4 percent, prompting the CBS Evening News to recently label the national teacher shortage “an education crisis.”
CMCSS names Marcia Demorest as Chief Financial Officer

Montgomery County, TN – Marcia Demorest, Finance Director for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, has been named the organization’s Chief Financial Officer effective July 1st. She replaces Danny Grant who retires this year after serving as CFO since 1997.
Two CMCSS Teachers will be honored at CMA Foundation Music Teachers of Excellence Awards

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) says the CMA Foundation, the national music education nonprofit and the philanthropic arm of the Country Music Association, will host its fourth annual Music Teachers of Excellence Awards on April 30th, 2019.
Clarksville High band teacher Robin Johnston and Barksdale Elementary music teacher Denise Rives are among the honorees.
Montgomery Central High School celebrated 2018 Graduation at APSU’s Dunn Center

Clarksville, TN – Montgomery Central High School recently held its Class of 2018 Commencement Exercises at APSU’s Dunn Center.
After the traditional processional, followed by the presentation of colors and the national anthem, Senior Class President Kymberlee McFaul stepped up to the podium to welcome everyone to Graduation 2018.
The senior choir performed, then MCHS Principal Christy Houston was up next to introduce faculty, special guests, and the ceremony’s featured speakers, Valedictorian Jerrianna Thompson, and Salutatorian Alexis Lancaster.
Northeast High School holds Graduation for 308 Seniors

Clarksville, TN – The Northeast High School Class of 2018 graduated 308 seniors at a commencement ceremony inside APSU’s Dunn Center on Saturday, May 26th.
Students wearing blue and gold entered in a traditional processional as Pomp and Circumstance played. Thousands of friends and family members filled the first two levels of the auditorium.
Members of JROTC marched to the stage for the presentation of colors, then Christina Webb sang the national anthem.
CMCSS Launches Reading Campaign with Celebrity Readers

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System says research shows that if a parent or adult spends 20 minutes a day reading to a child, that child scores 90% better than their peers on reading tests. It exposes them to 1.8 million words a year.

8 CMCSS Schools Labeled ‘Reward’ Schools
Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County School System continues to see academic success for its students. The State Department of Education today recognized nine CMCSS schools as “Reward Schools” for exceptional gains made in academic growth or achievement.
The state currently is labeling the system’s designation as “pending” while it reverifies CMCSS data. The designation likely will be made in December. CMCSS is one of five school districts in the state that the Department is reverifying.
