Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Earlier this year, Yoshio Koyama, a retired businessman from Japan, set up his new office in Austin Peay State University’s Harned Hall. During the semester, he’s taught a few language and culture classes, but Koyama isn’t a college professor.

Retired businessman Yoshio Koyama is a liaison provided by The Japan Foundation to help forge relationships between APSU and Japanese businesses.

APSU signs student exchange agreement with Spanish university

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University recently entered into a formal exchange agreement with the University of Burgos, Spain, ranked as one of the top institutions of its size among Spanish universities.

Located in Burgos, capital city of the province of the same name and located halfway between Madrid and the French Border, the University of Burgos boasts an enrollment of around 10,000 students, with over 30 different undergraduate degree programs and over 20 PhD programs, as well as several master’s and graduate-level courses.

Customs House Museum Exhibits Works by Margaret Evangeline

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Paintings by Internationally known artist Margaret Evangeline are on view in the Customs House Museum’s Kimbrough Gallery through October.

Evangeline’s work has been featured in Art in America, The New York Times, ArtNews, The New Yorker and many other publications. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in venues such as The Drawing Center, Art in General, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Palm Beach ICA, the Hafnarborg, Reykjavik and the Taipei Museum in Taiwan among others.

APSU Provost Lecture Series: Psychology professor to present session this week

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University psychology professor will present the next session of the Provost Lecture Series this week at APSU.

Dr. Stephen Truhon, professor of psychology, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, April 4th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The title of his presentation is “Operational Stress Control in the U.S. Navy.”

Austin Peay State University professors to publish scholarly book on zombies

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Dr. Antonio Thompson, Austin Peay State University associate professor of history, sat in his office after final exams last December, contemplating the moral implications of killing a zombie.

“If it’s caused by a virus, then theoretically it could be cured,” he said. “So what’s your legal obligation to zombies? Are they humans, monsters, animals?”

His wife, APSU associate professor of biology Dr. Amy Thompson, was more concerned with how the undead came to take over the world.

Austin Peay State University’s Yearbook earns First Place Award

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s yearbook, The Monocle, was named a first-place winner in the American Scholastic Press Association’s 2011 Scholastic Review and Contest.

The 2010 edition of the yearbook was given the top distinction along with similar yearbooks from Clemson University, Michigan State University, Howard University and others.

Judges award points based on design, photography, writing and other criteria. First-, second- and third-place awards are given based on the total points awarded. [Read more]
