Historic Collinsville 2022 Season opens April 1st

Clarksville, TN – Historic Collinsville Pioneer Settlement in rural Montgomery County, Tennessee, announces its 2022 opening weekend will be April 1st-3rd, 2022.
Visitors to the historic site will be greeted by new faces and can expect more activities throughout the year.

Clarksville, TN – Fort Defiance Interpretive Center hosted a living history event on Saturday, commemorating the surrender of Fort Defiance to Union Soldiers in 1862.
Re-enactors, dressed in costumes from the time, were demonstrating different aspects of life in Clarksville during the Civil War. Refreshments were provided that used recipes, ingredients and techniques that were available in the 19th century.
Hundreds of visitors, mostly families, came out throughout the day and spent time learning a little Clarksville history from more than a dozen volunteers that were on site.

Clarksville, TN – Saturday afternoon at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center a small group gathered to watch Mark Britton talk about Civil War era doctors, the tools, medicines, and methods they used.
“I’m not a doctor, but I could have been in the 19th century,” Britton said. “I’ve only been collecting and studying medical supplies and procedures for the last 10 to 12 years, but I have always been a fan of history, all types of history, ancient and recent.”

Clarksville, TN – Mark Britton will present a “Civil War Medical Display” at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 20th at Clarksville’s Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center.
The presentation is part of a new educational series, Life in the 1800’s, sponsored by The Friends of Fort Defiance.

Friends of Fort Defiance’s March into the Past provides a look into yesteryear at the historic Civil War site

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance held their annual March to the Past fundraiser at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center at the historic Civil War site in the New Providence area of Clarksville Tennessee on Saturday June 14th.
William Parker of the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation who serves as the historical interpreter for Fort Defiance and the director of the Visitor Center appreciates their actions on behalf of the site. “The Friends of Fort Defiance of been in existence for much longer than the visitor center has been here,” he said. “It’s probably been 20 years that they have been around and each year they hold their March into the Past fund-raising event.”

Fort Defiance Interpretive Center to host Civil War Medical Display Saturday

Clarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host a medical display Saturday, May 25th from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
The exhibit will feature presentations by Mark Britton and include a collection of medical items used during the 19th century to include necessary tools for blood-letting, various surgical procedures and preparation of period medicinal products.
