APSU arts and letters students collaborate on new Shakespeare podcast

Clarksville, TN – At first, it sounds like the set-up to a joke—a voice actor, a Restoration-era drama scholar and a sound engineer walk into a bar (or coffee shop, in this case).
But instead of hijinks, these three Austin Peay State University professors discuss a bold collaborative project to connect students from different disciplines and provide an entertaining resource for the community.

Austin Peay State University Opera Workshop to perform “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” on November 20th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Opera Workshop will explore the diverse works of one of history’s greatest playwrights, William Shakespeare, as it presents “Brush Up On Your Shakespeare” on Sunday, November 20th.
The curtain rises at 3:00pm, in the Mabry Concert Hall, located inside the Music/Mass Communication Building on the University campus. The show is free and open to the public.
APSU choral concert to re-imagine and re-examine “The Wizard of Oz”

Clarksville, TN – In L. Frank Baum’s hometown of Chittenango, New York, the brick sidewalks are painted yellow and the shops have names like “Auntie Em’s Place” and the “Emerald City Grill.”
This little village doesn’t really resemble the magical Oz, but it is part of the ongoing reinterpretation of Baum’s famous children’s story, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
That famous work has been re-imagined numerous times over the years, with the famous 1939 musical, “The Wizard of Oz,” the 1978 Michael Jackson fantasy, “The Wiz,” and Gregory Maguire’s bestselling book, later made into a hit Broadway musical, “Wicked.”

Roxy Regional Theatre introduces actors and actresses for upcoming performances

Clarksville, TN – The warmer weather is not the only change happening in Clarksville, as the Roxy Regional Theatre has a whole new company taking on the next several shows in the 29th season. Some of you will recognize from past Roxy productions and we are excited to have several new faces joining us this season.
I wanted to take a moment to introduce them, as they are a part of our Roxy family and will serve Clarksville with their stellar performances over the next several months.
“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” is having its two final performances this weekend at the Roxy Regional Theatre.
Roxy stages Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”

William Shakespeare”s MacBeth steps onto the Roxy Regional Theatre stage tonight for a three week run, with performances slated for March 6,7,11,12,13 at 8 p.m. and March 14 at 2 p.m.
This theatre classic depicts the anatomy of the relationship between ambition and corruption. Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most bloody and fear-filled tragedies. Often regarded as archetypal, the play tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends. Based loosely on the historical account of King Macbeth of Scotland many superstitions are centered on the belief the play is “cursed,” referring to it instead as “The Scottish play”. [Read more]
