APSU names experienced arts administrator as new CECA director

Clarksville, TN – On a cool evening in early February, dozens of people hurried across the Austin Peay State University campus to hear a lecture in the Trahern Building by Hollywood visual effects artist Colie Wertz.
The event, co-sponsored by the APSU Department of Art and Design and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA), attracted attendees from across Clarksville, interested in hearing from a man who’d worked on films such as “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Tennova Healthcare. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.
The meeting begins at 7:00 pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Distinguished professor Mike Gotcher to deliver Austin Peay commencement address on December 9th

Clarksville, TN – On December 9th, Dr. Mike Gotcher, professor of communication and interim executive director of Extended Education at Austin Peay State University, will deliver the keynote address at the APSU’s Winter Commencement.
He will speak at both commencement ceremonies, at 9:00am and 2:00pm, in the University’s Dunn Center.

APSU to Have Increased Autonomy with Local Governing Board
Clarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has appointed eight individuals to the newly created institutional governing board at Austin Peay State University.
The purpose of the appointments is to give the University increased autonomy to support student success as the state continues its Drive to 55 Initiative. Austin Peay State University’s governing board is one of six to be appointed by the governor, a result of the governor’s FOCUS Act passed by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year.
APSU’s Victor Felts presented with Southeastern Interfaternity Conference’s highest honor

Clarksville, TN – Victor Felts, director of Student Life and Engagement at Austin Peay State University, was presented with the Dr. Karlem Riess Award during this month’s Southeastern Interfaternity Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Dr. Karlem Riess Award is the highest honor bestowed to an individual by the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference.
Brad Barrett Named F&M Bank Director

“Brad brings a wealth of banking knowledge to F&M and his over 20 years of leadership at the helm of the TBA will contribute greatly as we seek new opportunities for growth across Middle Tennessee,” commented Stuard.
Following F&M’s recent sale to Nashville-area businessman Gaylon Lawrence Jr., Barrett joins the bank at an exciting time. Lawrence’s ownership of Middle Tennessee’s eighth largest bank will increase the bank’s capital and further position F&M for continued growth.
Sue Freeman Culverhouse Speaks to Montgomery County Historical Society about Robert Penn Warren

Clarksville, TN – Author Sue Freeman Culverhouse was the featured speaker as she described the life of Robert Penn Warren at the June 15th meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society. President Joe Filippo greeted the members and had the treasurer announce the upcoming barbeque fund-raiser to be held at the end of July.
Billyfrank Morrison gave a history of the school built on the site of the community center in South Guthrie, TN, where the event was held.
