APSU introduces first helicopter in its rotor-wing fleet

Clarksville, TN – GOV 1 has landed. Austin Peay State University (APSU) officials on Wednesday, January 9th, 2019 unveiled the first of three helicopters in its new rotor-wing fleet. The helicopters bolster the state’s first and only aviation science program with a rotor-wing concentration.

Fort Campbell 216th Composite Squadron
Clarksville, TN – The Fort Campbell 216th Composite Squadron, a local Civil Air Patrol unit, is hosting an open house from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Monday, August 27th, 2018 at the Clarksville Regional Airport, 200 Airport Road.
According to Capt James Kelly, squadron commander, the entire community is welcome to attend and learn more about Civil Air Patrol programs and special activities both for youth and adult members.
Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain the three core CAP missions of Aerospace Education, Cadet, and Emergency Services programs for America.
APSU names seasoned pilot/flight instructor Charles Weigandt director of proposed rotor wing program

Clarksville, TN – Charles W. Weigandt, a 24-year U.S. Army veteran and founding member of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, was recently named director of Austin Peay State University’s proposed Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science program, with a concentration in rotor wing (helicopters). He began his new role at APSU on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018.

Clarksville, TN – In Clarksville, it’s not unusual to see military aircraft flying over town, but next year, a new bachelor’s degree program at Austin Peay State University will put a few civilian helicopters into the local sky.
That’s because the University is in the final approval stages of a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science, with a concentration in rotor wing (helicopters), beginning next fall. The program will be the first rotor-wing flight school attached to a bachelor’s degree in the state.

Presented by the Airport, the Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County and title sponsor Fortera Credit Union, organizers called the multi-faceted first year event a high-flying success.

Humane Society’s Courtney Berlyak talked about the success of the event and the fortuitous timing of CRA’s John Patterson’s proposal, coming just as Humane Society leaders had decided to end its annual Wags to Witches Fur Ball Bash.

Total Solar Eclipse Signals Biggest Day in Clarksville Regional Airport History

Clarksville, TN – The Great American Eclipse of 2017 on August 21st was a once-in-a-lifetime event for many in Clarksville. But for Clarksville Regional Airport it was also a historic milestone that eclipsed all previous single day aircraft traffic records at the public-use airport.
The airport embraced its role as the “front door to Middle Tennessee” and invited people from across the world to fly-in to the facility located near the Tennessee-Kentucky state line to experience the total solar eclipse.
