APSU professor Dr. Korre Foster to conduct Académie de Musique choir in Paris

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – In partnership with the French Académie de Musique, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of music Dr. Korre Foster will conduct a trio of choral performances in July in Paris.

Under a French-American exchange supported through a grant from the Florence Gould Foundation, Foster will be working with the Académie’s Chamber Choir, a collection of university, college and conservatory students gathered from throughout France.

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for life’s blessings, and the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature hosts an annual reading to benefit those less fortunate in the community the best way it knows how: through the written word.

Bonehead PromotionsClarksville, TN – James Horne has joined Bonehead Promotions to help launch a new sports network in Clarksville. Horne was the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle’s Austin Peay State University sports writer and brings sixteen years of journalistic experience to the new venture.

He will anchor a new afternoon sports show on Clarksville’s only news talk sports radio station, 1400am WJZM, and be a contributing writer for Clarksville Online, and the Clarksville Sports Network.

APSU to celebrate new Hemlock Semiconductor Building with grand opening

Austin Peay State UniversityA year after breaking ground, Austin Peay State University will celebrate the grand opening of the new Hemlock Semiconductor Building at noon, Thursday, September 16th.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting and name dedication ceremony at the new facility, located at the intersection of College and Eighth streets. The Hemlock Semiconductor Building houses the chemical engineering technology (CET) associate degree program and laboratory. [Read more]

High School Students Excel at APSU Governor’s School

Austin Peay State University LogoTyler Saunders, a high school student from Dover, was walking across the Austin Peay State University campus last summer when a poster advertising the upcoming Governor’s School in Computational Physics caught his eye.

The highly competitive program, which has been at APSU for three years, is geared toward hardworking high school sophomores and juniors with an interest in engineering, mathematics and science, and allows them to earn seven hours of college credit. The Governor’s School in Computational Physics (GSCP) seeks only the best and brightest students in the state, and Saunders was intrigued by the poster he saw for it.

“It made me want to do it,” he said. “I honestly didn’t know it had anything to do with computers and stuff. I was pleasantly surprised when I came in and found I would be learning all this cool stuff.” [Read more]

Franks named 2010 Hawkins Award Winner at APSU

Austin Peay State University LogoDr. Jill Franks, professor of English, was named the recipient of Austin Peay State University’s prestigious Richard M. Hawkins Award during a ceremony last month. The award is presented every spring in recognition of exceptional scholarly and creative work produced by a faculty member.

Franks, one of the leading scholars of 20th century British and Irish studies, joined the APSU faculty in 1996 and has since published numerous articles, biographical and critical essays and reviews in highly regarded journals and books.

She recently served as the president of the D.H. Lawrence Society of North America and is associate editor of the prestigious D.H. Lawrence Review. Her position with this organization helped APSU’s Woodward Library become the recipient of the late Dr. James Cowan’s extensive D.H. Lawrence Collection. [Read more]

Florim USA presents scholarships to APSU

Representatives from Florim USA, a Clarksville-based manufacturer of Italian-designed porcelain tiles, visited Austin Peay State University recently to present scholarships to three deserving students.

Giancarlo Adani, Florim USA vice president of operations, awarded a computer science scholarship to Aaron Taylor, a marketing scholarship to Emmanuel Heath and a chemistry scholarship to Cody Covington. [Read more]
