APSU recognized as Tennessee’s best University for Vets

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – When the national publication Military Times released its annual “Best for Vets: Colleges 2014” list earlier this week, it named Austin Peay State University as the top school in Tennessee for serving and supporting military veterans.

The newspaper listed APSU as the 57th best university in the country for veterans to attend, and it gave the University four stars for the academic support it provides these students.

APSU plans activities as part of Disability Awareness Month throughout April 2013

But for those who have disabilities, such activities can be a challenge. Their world is different.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University campus isn’t simply a home for some 11,000 students. Squirrels, rabbits, birds and a few feral cats have also taken up residence in the bushes and trees surrounding the red brick, Georgian-style buildings.

They come here because of the abundance of food, water and shelter, but they stay because the campus offers these creatures a safe place to raise their young.

Austin Peay’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter collecting books for Candy for the Mind

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – As you shop for groceries, Halloween goodies and other items, remember to pick up a new book or two to donate to the annual Candy for the Mind project at Austin Peay State University.

For the 10th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at APSU is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project. Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or funds for the purchase of books.

Austin Peay Students gain valuable experience with help of new 3-D Printers

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Students enrolled in the engineering technology degree program at the Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell may be amazed to see the colorful, three-dimensional objects they create using new specialized machines.

However, they are gaining a lot more. The new state-of-the-art three-dimensional (3-D) printers are the tools used in the automotive and manufacturing industries, such as aerospace, medical, product design and small quantity commercial product manufacturing. This means students are getting the knowledge they need to use in the workforce.

Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell offers Master of Arts in Teaching for Fall I term

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell will offer courses for the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree for the Fall I term.

The M.A.T. provides opportunities for those who hold baccalaureate degrees to complete initial teacher licensure requirements and a master’s degree concurrently. The Fort Campbell Center program is available to individuals who wish to teach at the secondary level. Programs in elementary and special education are available at the downtown campus. [Read more]

APSU at Fort Campbell to have Student Appreciation Day

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell will hold a Student Appreciation Day from 11:30am-2:00pm, Thursday, October 27th in the Glenn English Education Center at Fort Campbell, KY.

The event is free and open to the public.

The University’s culinary arts program will provide refreshments, and door prizes will be given. Students are encouraged to attend to meet their academic department representative.
