{"id":7328,"date":"2011-07-21T09:00:57","date_gmt":"2011-07-21T14:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=7328"},"modified":"2011-07-20T22:24:26","modified_gmt":"2011-07-21T03:24:26","slug":"apsu-student-earns-leadership-award-at-rotc-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2011\/07\/21\/apsu-student-earns-leadership-award-at-rotc-course\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU student earns leadership award at ROTC course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-47306\" title=\"Austin Peay State University\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/apsu-logo-200x123.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; An Austin Peay State University student recently was presented the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Leadership Excellence Award at the U.S. Army\u2019s Leader Development and Assessment Course at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.<\/p>\n<p>Marcos Gutierrez, of Pasadena, Texas, was ranked No. 1 among 469 Army cadets for the 5th Regiment at the 29-day Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge, the capstone training and assessment exercise for the Army Reserve Officers\u2019 Training Corps (ROTC).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_84118\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Marcos-Gutierrez.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84118\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-84118\" title=\"Marcos Gutierrez\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Marcos-Gutierrez-480x416.jpg\" alt=\"Marcos Gutierrez\" width=\"480\" height=\"416\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-84118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marcos Gutierrez<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Cadets at Warrior Forge are tested on their physical stamina, endurance, ability to navigate over difficult terrain, and their team-building and leadership skills. An Army saber to signify the award was presented to Gutierrez at a graduation ceremony July 19th.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of college students from around the globe converge at Joint Base Lewis-McChord each summer to attend the course.
