We hope so! The extra toe is a spontaneous genetic mutation called polydactylism. Ernest Hemingway, renowned American novelist, was known for keeping polydactyl cats at his home In Key West, Florida. Even today, ancestors of his pets stroll through the grounds of his home, now a tourist attraction. A Humane Society foster home volunteer, recently rescued this feline family from a crawl space under a neighborhood home. She loaded up two of the kittens &amp; started to head out of the crawl space, but Polly wouldn\u2019t let her leave\u2026 she instead directed our volunteer right back to a third kitty.
